Indie news round-up11/4/2018 Get release dates, trailers and details on some of the indie games heading your way in the coming months. For extra immersion, Downward Spiral also features support for PS VR, Oculus Touch, HTC Vive and Windows Mixed Reality. It launches sometime this spring on PC and PS4. Keep an eye out for our thoughts on DSHS in the coming months. Rogue Aces Releasing tomorrow on PS4 and PS Vita (complete with Cross-Buy and Cross-Save functionality), as well as Nintendo Switch, Rogue Aces is a rogue-lite aerial combat game with a “colourful 1940s” style. Featuring 100 procedurally generated levels that increase in difficulty, players must turn the tide of war by capturing enemy bases and eliminating their armies while managing their own fuel supplies and aircraft repairs. You can read our verdict on the game soon, as we’ll be taking it for one of our famous Quickies. PHOGS! Bit Loom and Coatsink are collaborating to bring you PHOGS!, an adventure physics-puzzler set in the “vivid, colourful world” known as the Phoggyverse and starring two dogs joined at the middle. Their (its?) “gelatinous mid-section” is what allows players to solve puzzles together via a cooperative control scheme inspired by the excellent Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons, which means, just like Brothers, the game can also be played solo. This will release sometime in 2019 across multiple platforms, but we’ll hopefully be going hands-on with the game this weekend at EGX Rezzed. Steel Rats Another we’ll be looking to play at Rezzed, Steel Rats is a 2.5D “stunt combat game” coming to Xbox One, PS4 and PC later this year. You can see some of the game’s motorbike-based action below in the brand-new gameplay reveal. There’s definitely a Trials meets Biker Mice from Mars vibe going on, which is no bad thing. City of Brass A first-person rogue-lite adventure inspired by Arabian Nights, City of Brass is developed by Uppercut Games, a studio made up of former BioShock developers. The goal is to make your way deep into the City of Brass to hunt for treasure, dodging traps and taking on enemies with your scimitar and lash and escaping before time runs out. The game has been available via Steam Early Access since last September and has seen a positive initial response, but is now set for final release on Xbox One and PS4 next month. We’ll be bringing you our thoughts on City of Brass when it launches on 4 May. Let us know your thoughts of any of these titles below or over in the forums.
Ubisoft are bringing Sam Fisher, the legendary super spy, to Ghost Recon Wildlands, which you can also try for free all weekend.
“We are all super excited to bring such an iconic character as Sam Fisher into Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Wildlands,” said Nouredine Abboud, Senior Producer at Ubisoft.
“Teaming up with Sam Fisher will require the Ghosts’ stealth, cleverness and tactics…we can’t wait to see the reactions of our players as they face this new challenge!” Rewards for successfully completing the mission include Fisher’s iconic sonar goggles and other cosmetic items, though these can only be earned before 16 May. After that, players won’t receive any special rewards for completing the mission. Further customisation options are available through the paid for Splinter Cell Gear Pack, or through the Year 2 content pass. Those with the pass will also have a week’s early access to the new Ghost War class, Echelon. This Splinter Cell-inspired class features high-tech gadgets such as a Sonar Pulse that allows players to spot enemies through nearby walls. If you’re interested in giving the new mission a try, you can download and play the game across all platforms for free this weekend, from 12 – 15 April. Let us know your thoughts on the Wildlands/Splinter Cell crossover below or in the forums. ENDED: DiRT Rally giveaway9/4/2018

Spider-Man releases on PS4 this September, pre-order bonus includes punk-inspired Spidey suit6/4/2018 Insomniac Games’ Spider-Man received a September release date this week, along with a look at some pre-order bonuses. While only the Spider-Punk suit was seen in the trailer, two more mystery suits are set to be revealed, one in July and the other much sooner.
Spider-Man is out 7 September on PS4. Will you be pre-ordering? Let us know below. Activision have confirmed a remaster of the original Spyro trilogy is coming to consoles later this year.
"We're deeply passionate about staying true to the legacy of the original three Spyro games with the Spyro Reignited Trilogy,” said Paul Yan, Toys For Bob’s Chief Creative Officer.
“We've poured a lot of love into making the personalities and worlds feel just like fans remember them, while also keeping the game collection surprisingly fresh with lush, high definition detail. We're bringing back the Spyro we all fell in love with 20 years ago." From Monday 9 April, those who own the Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy on PS4 can get a first look of the remaster via a trailer by entering the iconic code ↑ ↑ ↓ ↓ ← → ← → square into their controller whilst on the Crash Bandicoot 3: Warped title screen. Spyro Reignited Trilogy is out 21 September on Xbox One and PS4. It’s been a little over a year since Ghost Recon Wildlands was released, but Ubisoft are continuing to support the game with a bunch of new content over the coming twelve months. The first of these free updates drops next week, 10 April, and adds the ability to customise your AI teammates with all the gear players have unlocked for their own character, plus a free PvE mission and special challenge with “exclusive rewards”.
There’s also a new Ghost War game mode called Sabotage that features five exclusive maps, a new perk and explosive device, plus six new classes. Although the bulk of the Special Operations and their contents will be free, players can pick up a Year 2 Pass that offers seven-day early access to the six new Year 2 Ghost War classes, an exclusive customisation pack and eight battle crates (Wildlands’ version of loot boxes). Wildlands’ first year of post-launch support featured a total of 13 updates, which included the addition of the aforementioned Ghost War multiplayer mode, two paid campaign expansions, and a Predator-themed special event. Let us know your thoughts on Wildlands’ second year of post-launch content below. Warner Bros. and Monolith are doing away with microtransactions and loot boxes (known as War Chests) in Middle-earth: Shadow of War. Developer Monolith admitted the reason for the removal of microtransactions was because the studio worried their presence undermined the value of the game’s lauded Nemesis System.
“The core promise of the Nemesis System is the ability to build relationships with your personal allies and enemies in a dynamic open world,” read the blog post. “While purchasing Orcs in the Market is more immediate and provides additional player options, we have come to realize that providing this choice risked undermining the heart of our game, the Nemesis System.” “It allows you to miss out on the awesome player stories you would have otherwise created, and it compromises those same stories even if you don’t buy anything. Simply being aware that they are available for purchase reduces the immersion in the world and takes away from the challenge of building your personal army and your fortresses.” Monolith also made mention of plans to tweak the controversial Shadow Wars endgame, in which players defend their fortresses from Sauron’s repeated attacks. New narrative elements are going to be added to help make the whole experience feel more “cohesive” and “streamlined”. This will not change the Endless Siege mode however, where players are able to continue to defend their fortresses indefinitely, as they have since the update went live late last year. What do you think of the decision to remove microtransactions from Shadow of War? Let us know below.
