Part of Watch Dogs 2’s online multiplayer can now be enjoyed by PlayStation 4 users after Ubisoft rolled out an update earlier this afternoon.

Those who own the game on Xbox One will have to wait a little longer, with Ubisoft anticipating activation of seamless multiplayer on Microsoft’s console sometime overnight.
Here’s what features will be available to players via the in-game smartphone’s Multiplayer App:

  • Invite friends to co-op or search for new co-op partners
  • Hack into a rival hacker's world
  • Find targets for Bounty Hunts or trigger a bounty on themselves

Ubisoft will be keeping an eye on the stability of the newly activated multiplayer features, and if everything continues to run smoothly, will deploy the second and final phase of the seamless multiplayer experience.

This includes:

  • “Nearby bounty targets and Prime_Eight rivals will join the player’s world for them to hunt down and hack without going through the Multiplayer App in the smartphone.”
  • “Players will also encounter friendly Dedsec hackers who can help them complete different Dedsec events throughout San Francisco.”

Are you looking forward to the return of Watch Dogs 2’s seamless multiplayer? Let us know in the forums and the comments.

The Division's Survival expansion drops today on Xbox One and PC

22/11/2016

Picture

Survival adds a completely new mode, for agents looking for an extreme challenge.

by Chris Brand
Picture

@pass_controller

Manhattan has been hit by a devastating snowstorm, and agents of the The Division receive intel about some powerful anti-viral drugs left behind in the Dark Zone which could help to fight the pandemic. Before they can reach their destination, the agents' chopper is taken down by the weather.
Players will have to manage cold, disease, hunger and thirst on their way to the objective. Survival will mean finding warm clothes, crafting supplies and scavenging for food, water and medicine. Easier said than done when there are 23 other agents competing for limited resources.

Take a look at the trailer below.
Aside from the hostile environment, players will also have to deal with a new enemy. The Hunter is a swift, highly advanced foe who proudly displays the watches of the agents he's killed.

Survival will allow you to choose either PvP or PvE. In PvP, the Rogue mechanic does not apply, you can fight with or against other players in every corner of the map, including outside of the Dark Zone. PvP comes with additional risks and so players are granted a bonus multiplier to their total score as a reward.

PvE offers a lighter game and players will be unable to attack other agents, even in the Dark Zone.

The DLC goes live alongside free update 1.5, which will include a new world tier for all activities - world tier five - as well as 6 new high-end named gear pieces, 3 high-end named weapons and 12 new weapon types.

Survival is part of the season pass or can be bought separately, and launches 22 November on Xbox One and PC. PS4 users can get in on the action from 20 December.

Looking forward to the new game mode? Let us know in the forums or leave a comment below.

@pass_controller

Dark Souls 3 was crowned the Ultimate Game of the Year, Pokemon Go picked up Innovation of the Year and Handheld/Mobile Game of the Year, and Overwatch walked away with no less than five awards, including Best Original Game, Best Multiplayer Game and PC Game of the Year.
2015's Ultimate Game of the Year, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, was once again honoured as its Blood and Wine DLC took the awards for Best Storytelling and Best Visual Design. Doug Cockle won Best Gaming Performance for his work as Geralt of Rivia, and developers CD Projekt Red won Studio of the Year.

The Lifetime Achievement Award went to Eiji Aonuma, the man behind the much loved The Legend of Zelda series. Despite winning such a prestigious award, Aonuma left his ego at the door, stating:

“I am glad, honoured and really humbled to be awarded the Golden Joysticks 2016 Lifetime Achievement Award. I say I’m humbled because when I heard about this award, I had to ask myself… “am I qualified to be accepting this myself as an individual, when the award belongs more to The Legend of Zelda series?” With this understanding I accept the award with pleasure on behalf of more that 1,000 creators, artists, engineers and composers who have worked on the series for more than 30 years.”

In the individual console categories, The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD won Nintendo Game of the Year, Uncharted 4: A Thief's End took PlayStation Game of the Year, and Rise of the Tomb Raider was Xbox Game of the Year.

2016 marks the 20 year anniversary of Tomb Raider. Its iconic star, Lara Croft, was inducted into the Golden Joystick Awards Hall Of Fame.

Awesomenauts’ Rise of Galactron update improves matchmaking and UI for Steam users

17/11/2016

Picture

Ronimo Games have released a massive update for Awesomenauts on Steam, redesigning the game’s UI and introducing “AAA style matchmaking”.

by Liam Andrews
Picture
@pass_controller

The game’s matchmaking system has been rebuilt from the ground-up, lowering both pings and skill differences when finding matches, while harsher penalties will be implemented for players who abandon games early.
A persistent party system has also been introduced, meaning it’s now easier for groups of friends to play together, and the new re-join system allows accidentally disconnected players to jump straight back into the action.

Ronimo is aiming to implement more features in the near future, starting with a spectator mode next month and a level editor with full Steam Workshop integration, which will arrive sometime next year.

When we asked whether console players will be benefitting from the Rise of Galactron update, Ronimo gave us this reply:

“As for consoles, for now we are sticking with the respective networking solutions provided by Microsoft and Sony. Therefore, it also doesn't make sense to port over the new UI flow either,” said Jasper Koning, Game Designer and Co-founder of Ronimo Games.

“Of course we'll keep evaluating if our current direction makes sense, given the circumstances and our available manpower. But given those, I don't see it happening in the foreseeable future.”

So, it looks like Xbox and PlayStation users will be missing out on Galactron’s improvements, at least for the time being.

Operation Red Crow launches tomorrow for Rainbow Six Siege

16/11/2016

The final update of Rainbow Six Siege’s first season goes live tomorrow, adding two new operators from Japan’s special forces, as well as the new Skyscraper map.

by Liam Andrews

@pass_controller

Those who don’t own the Season Pass will have access to the update and all its content aside from the two new operators, which are exclusive to Season Pass holders until 24 November. After that date they can be unlocked with either R6 Credits or Renown.
The video below highlights the two operator’s key abilities.
Arriving alongside the content are something called Elite sets:

“The Elite sets, a new customisation series, will be available for the first time with the release of Operation Red Crow. Each set will include a matching uniform and headgear, an operator card, a charm, an operator name and a signature victory animation. The first Operators to receive the honors are Kapkan, Sledge and Thermite.”

The second season of additional content will begin in February 2017 and will feature a “similar structure as the first year”. More information about next year’s post launch support will be unveiled during the Six Invitational event, which also takes place next February.
