Massive Xbox One Verdun update overhauls visuals, audio, gameplay, more – also adds multiplayer bots5/12/2019 M2H and BlackMill Games have released a huge update for their WW1-set multiplayer shooter, Verdun, on Xbox One, with existing owners receiving it for free One of the biggest changes sees a new spawn system introduced to Verdun’s Frontlines mode, allowing players to pick their spawn point in a similar way that spin-off title, Tannenberg, allows in its larger matches. Up to 24 AI bots will take the place of real players, a feature that will hopefully help reinvigorate the player base on Xbox One.
As for new content, the update includes two new squads – the ANZACs and Senegalese Tirailleurs – the new St. Mihiel Salient map, the Webley-Fosbery and Berthier Mle. 1907 main weapons, the machete and trench tool melee weapons, and a couple of new grenade types. Lastly, there’s a new tutorial mode that helps new or returning players get to grips with some of the game’s key systems, like squads and levelling up, and more language options have also been added. You can read about all the changes being made to the game here. The update goes live today for Xbox One players, with a PlayStation 4 version also in the works for a later date. UK publisher Slitherine LTD are partnering up with Belgian development studio The Artistocrats (Order of Battle, Commander: The Great War) to make a new game based on the Starship Troopers film. According to Slitherine, the game will feature complex mechanics and deep gameplay systems, along with a “wide variety of options to turn a fast-paced strategy game into a mind-bending experience that involves multiple solutions to a very basic problem: to kill a lot of bugs.” Judging from the trailer, it looks like some of those options include air strikes and giant mechs, and, of course, portable nukes.
Development Director Iain McNeil spoke about the game using the film as inspiration to create an authentic feeling experience: “When creating this game, we aimed to capture the essence of the original movie and its universe. This is not only achieved by creating a coherent set of units and scenarios, but also by mimicking the language, visual elements, dialogues and the little details that made the film such an iconic, cult feature. “Modern strategy games are fast-paced and they successfully blend unit management, survival and captivating storytelling,” continued McNeil. “Nothing is more suited to this type of gameplay than the Starship Troopers universe, where there is a continuous sense of danger and uncertainty.” There’s no solid release date yet, with the game said to be coming to PC sometime next year. Nintendo have released a new video giving us a look at the latest update coming to Super Mario Maker 2 on 5 December, which includes one of gaming’s most famous blades. As well as legendary swords, the update also introduces a couple of new enemy types that will be available across all styles. There’s Spike, who throws spikey balls at players, and Pokey (who probably should have been called Spike) a moving cactus-like creature that comes in a variety of sizes and occasionally flies.
In terms of building materials, the update adds frozen coins, which, as the name suggests, is a coin that’s been frozen in ice. There’s also P blocks that can be switched on and off, and a dash block (Super Mario 3D World style only) that gives players a boost when jumped upon. Finally, there’s a new mode called Ninji Speedruns that tasks players with registering the quickest time on special courses created by Nintendo. In a rather cool addition, Ninji ghosts of other players run alongside you as you compete for the fastest time and rewards. What do you think of the update? Looking forward to wielding the Master Sword? Let us know below. ENDED: PowerBeatsVR giveaway2/12/2019
