Epic Games announce publishing partnership with developers Remedy, Playdead and gen DESIGN

Epic Games have announced a new partnership deal with three studios that will see them handling publishing duties for their upcoming titles across multiple platforms.

The three studios are Remedy Entertainment (Control), (Quantum Break), Playdead (INSIDE, Limbo) and gen DESIGN (The Last Guardian). The new partnership is being touted as a “developer-first” initiative, with each studio retaining full ownership of their IPs, as well as creative freedom. All aspects of development costs will be covered entirely by Epic, including salaries, QA testing and marketing.

Once a game has been released and the initial development costs have been recouped, Epic and the development team will be splitting all profits made, with studios said to be getting “at least 50% of all profits.”

"gen DESIGN, Remedy, and Playdead are among the most innovative and talented studios in the industry, with strong visions for their next games. They will have full creative control, while Epic will provide a solid foundation of project funding and services,” said Hector Sanchez, Head of Epic Games Publishing.

​While there’s no details on what the three studios who have partnered with Epic are working on, more information will be announced “in the coming months.”
