Developers, ROCKFISH Games have yet to release details on the plot, but they've promised a captivating story with cutscenes, flashbacks and enough lore to keep players interested, something they believe is missing from the genre.
The goal of the game is to reach your destination. This will entail finding your way through a system and gathering enough fuel to start your jump drive, launching you into the next. Players will need to gather enough resources on the way to upgrade their ship in order to take on the tougher challenges that await.

Take a look at the explosion-heavy launch trailer to see the combat and navigation in action:
Here's a look at some sumptuous screenshots:
Death is likely in Everspace, but it needn't be a hindrance. Dying will allow you to permanently upgrade your spacecraft in numerous ways, such as boosting your shield capacity, enhancing sensors, improving weapons, attaching armoured plates and more. Most ship upgrades will be directly visible, some having a greater impact than others.

Death may also make you think twice about tactics; flying in all guns blazing could leave your ship with significant wear and tear and in need of patching up, but it could result in you acquiring some valuable resources. Cloaking your ship and trying to sneak past foes might mean you absorb less damage, but you could miss out on some precious materials.

Once you reach your goal, you can start a new run and a different course will be plotted, making it unlikely that you'll happen upon the same scenarios twice.

Early Access / Xbox Preview Program features:

  • Single player rogue-like space shooter with persistent progression
  • Vibrant art style with top-notch visuals featuring ultra-hires textures
  • Rock solid 6DOF controls optimized for fast-paced space combat
  • In-depth crafting and damage system

Upcoming features of the full version:

  • Two additional player ships with different capabilities and starting gear
  • Dynamic cockpit displays for all player ships
  • Captivating non-linear story featuring interesting and thoughtfully designed characters
  • Hardcore Mode with permadeath for die-hard rogue-like fans
  • VR support for oculus Rift and HTC Vive

Everspace is available through the Xbox Game Preview program, Steam and GOG. A Windows 10 version is coming soon.
