Ubisoft have officially unveiled Far Cry 5 after releasing a set of teaser trailers earlier in the week, which confirmed that the game will be the first in the franchise to be set within the United States.

The game takes place in the fictional location of Hope County, Montana, and sees players stepping into the role of a Junior Deputy, whose sudden arrival in the county sparks an attempted coup by a doomsday cult known as the Project at Eden’s Gate, which is led by the prophet known as Joseph Seed. The game will not feature a default protagonist, with players instead choosing the race and gender of their character themselves.
Players will have “total freedom” to roam across the farmland, forests, mountains and rivers that make up Hope County solo or with a friend in two-player co-op, joining forces with the locals and raising a resistance movement against the cult.

As well as a mix of ground-based vehicles, players can take to the skies in planes where they’ll face off against the cult in aerial dogfights, and they’ll also be able to call upon some of the larger members of the local wildlife, such as bears and cougars, to help out during firefights.

Ubisoft also introduced us to some of the residents we’ll presumably be fighting alongside in the battle for Hope County, who you can see more of in the three trailers below.
Far Cry 5 sees the return of the series’ map editor, which allows players the “opportunity to create and play an infinite amount of new playgrounds”, according to Ubisoft, who promised to reveal more details about the tool’s new features “soon”.

Far Cry 5 is out 27 February 2018 on Xbox One, Project Scorpio, PlayStation 4 and PC. Share your thoughts on the reveal with us over in the forums or below.
