Shadow of War is being developed by Monolith Productions, who produced the 2015 original, and is set to continue where that game left off. Players are promised “a richer, more personal and expansive world full of epic heroes and villains” in which they’ll wield a Ring of Power against Sauron and the Nazgul in an epic battle for Middle-earth.
The Nemesis System has been expanded to make every player’s story that little bit more unique by introducing Nemesis Fortresses, which will allow players to “utilize different strategies to conquer dynamic strongholds and create personalized worlds with their unique Orc army.”

Decisions and actions made by players will shape and alter the in-game world and the characters inhabiting it, while the introduction of Followers will “bring about entirely new stories of loyalty, betrayal and revenge.”

We’ll get to see more Shadow of War with the release of a gameplay trailer early next month, specifically 8 March.

Middle-earth: Shadow of War is out 25 August on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC, and the game will be available on Windows 10 and Xbox One as an Xbox Play Anywhere title. A Project Scorpio version has also been confirmed, but will presumably launch at a later date.
