Sports Direct buys 26% of GAME

UK retailer Sports Direct now owns more than a quarter of high street video game specialist GAME.

Sports Direct’s billionaire-owner Mike Ashley has bought 44million GAME shares, which is almost 26 percent of the company. The Newcastle United owner also has stakes in Debenhams, French Connection and Findel.

​Earlier this year GAME issued a profit warning after a slow start to 2017, blaming a lack of Nintendo Switch stock for its struggles.

Meanwhile, Sports Direct has been making headlines for all the wrong reasons, including a £14million lawsuit and last year’s investigation into the chain’s working conditions.
