EA and DICE have revealed plans to drastically overhaul the multiplayer progression system in Star Wars Battlefront II.
The “complete re-design of the in-game progression system” will see player progression take on a much more linear feel, though players will be allowed to keep all Star Cards, Heroes and other unlocks they’ve already earned prior to next week’s overhaul.
Instead of earning Star Cards through random loot crate drops, players will be able to unlock or upgrade a Star Card of their choice by using the Skill Points they’ve earned through levelling up a class or Hero. This is done by earning experience points simply through playing multiplayer matches. Star Cards are, in fact, being removed from loot crates entirely, with only cosmetic items and in-game Credits to be available through them as of next week. DICE are also removing the ability to purchase crates with Credits, instead they’ll be handed out to players as rewards for daily logins and completing multiplayer challenges. The update goes live on 21 March. Looking a little further ahead, EA have revealed players will be able to directly buy skins for heroes and troopers as of next month, either through Credits earned in-game or via Crystals, a paid for currency. “These changes are a major step as we continue to improve the core of the game and add new content,” reads the blog post. “In addition to continued balance patches, we will also add a number of modes to Star Wars Battlefront II in the coming months, offering several standout, brand-new ways to play.” Let us know your thoughts on Battlefront II’s new-look progression system below.
