The latest Pokémon GO update adds 80 new Pokémon from the Johto region

Pokémon GO players will start to see 80 new monsters cropping up in the wild sometime later this week, Niantic and The Pokémon Company have announced.

The new Pokémon have been pulled straight from the Johto region and the Gold and Silver generation of games, and include the likes of Chikorita, Cyndaquil, and Totodile. Arriving alongside the Pokémon are a couple of new items and customisation options.

The new evolution items allow trainers “to evolve their Pokémon into ones that were originally discovered in the Johto region,” and two berries add a couple of new gameplay features.
 
The Nanab Berry slows down a Pokémon’s movements, while the Pinap Berry rewards trainers with double Candy if the next capture attempt is successful.
 
Trainer avatars are also getting some love in the update, with more customisation options in the form of hats, shirts, pants and other items, some of which will be available from the in-game Pokémon GO shop.
