The single player Expedition mode challenges players to get to the other side of the island, starting with only four wheels, a seat, a frame and an engine. Some hills require huge amounts of horsepower whilst certain gaps can only be crossed using rockets strapped to the vehicle or helicopter blades, providing you can uncover them.

Expedition will later be updated to allow up to four friends to explore together but for now Sandbox mode and Dethrone are available in multiplayer.

Sandbox permits players to build whatever they can envision with no limits, whilst Dethrone is a blend of capture the flag and king of the hill.

More multiplayer modes, along with new skins and vehicle parts, are already in development and will be released at a later date as frequent post-launch support.

"Trailmakers emphasizes fun first over everything else," said Mikkel Thorsted, creative director, Flashbulb Games. "We want everyone to feel as free as their untamed imaginations allow, and we can't wait to see the vehicles our players will dream up throughout Early Access."

Trailmakers usually costs £14.99 but a week long 10% discount to celebrate the launch knocks that down to £13.49.
