Over on the Windows blog it was announced that the, succinctly titled, Acer Windows Mixed Reality Development Edition headsets will be shipped out to Microsoft developer partners this month. The kits will contain the Acer headset, documentation and access to Windows 10 Insider preview builds and the software development kit (SDK), which will enable the creation of mixed reality apps.
The headset comes equipped with built-in inside-out tracking, so there's no need for external trackers or sensors. Microsoft also promise an easy, complication free "plug in and play" setup. Here's the specifications for the headset:
Interestingly, it won't be solely for use on PC: "We’re also excited to share that Windows Mixed Reality experiences will light up on other devices over time, beyond desktop and Microsoft HoloLens. Our plan is to bring mixed reality content to the Xbox One family of devices, including Project Scorpio, in 2018." We can look forward to more information during Microsoft's //build conference in May. What do you think of the Mixed Reality headsets? Let us know over in the forums or leave a comment below.
