It might not be the sequel that we were all hoping for, but it is one of the most requested games to made available through the programme. Just watch out for that one achievement. SEGA today announced the acquisition of Amplitude Studios, the development team behind the Endless series – a 4X strategy franchise including the titles Endless Legend, Endless Space and Dungeon of the Endless. Jurgen Post, President/COO for SEGA Europe, spoke of his delight at Amplitude joining their ranks:
“To have the opportunity to add a studio with the growing reputation of Amplitude’s, to the SEGA family, is an exciting one and reinforces SEGA Europe’s position as a market leader in publishing high quality PC games”, he said. “Culturally, Amplitude are a fantastic fit for the business as they not only produce great games, but also have a proven track record in listening to their fans and directly involving them in the ongoing development of their games through their GAMES2GETHER system.” The GAMES2GETHER program mentioned by Post is Amplitude’s unique spin on a development process in which their community have the opportunity to contribute to a game’s creation, allowing the studio to directly implement fan-feedback and ideas. Formed in 2011, Amplitude are the fourth studio to be snapped up by SEGA since 2005, joining the likes of Sports Interactive (Football Manager), Creative Assembly (Total War, Alien: Isolation) and Relic Entertainment (Company of Heroes, Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War). Co-Founder of Amplitude Studios, Mathieu Girard, also seemed happy with the union between the two companies: “Joining the SEGA family represents the culmination of five years of hard work from myself and Romain and everyone here at Amplitude Studios. For the Endless series to be alongside PC franchises with such heritage as Total War and Dawn of War in the SEGA Europe stable puts our games where we feel they deserve to be. We look forward to leveraging SEGA Europe’s expertise in the PC market to take the Endless series to the next level.” Let us know your thoughts about Amplitude joining SEGA over in the forums or leave a comment below. It appears that avatars will also be getting a visual upgrade. The image seems to show visually upgraded avatars whose new graphical fidelity definitely isn't terrifying at all. It's not yet known how, or even if, wheelchairs will be integrated into games featuring avatars, but Microsoft have received a lot of praise for the move.
When the wheelchair update goes live we might also see a deeper level of customisation for our digital counterparts. A job posting last year suggested Microsoft were looking to “take Xbox Avatars on their biggest adventure yet with higher fidelity and a bigger stage in new Xbox experiences”. Avatars were added to the Xbox 360 back in 2008, but were absent when Xbox One launched. Many were pleased when the feature returned as part of the New Xbox One Experience, although very few games or apps have taken advantage of their re-emergence. How do feel about the inclusion of wheelchairs for your avatar? Are you happy with the new look or does the visual upgrade send a chill through your bones? Let us know in the forums or comment below. With a little over 3 weeks to go, Nightdive Studios have raised $779,716 of their $900,000 goal, thanks to 12,500 backers. If successful, the game will feature re-imagined enemies, weapons and locations, designed by Robb Waters, concept artist on the original System Shock. Terri Brosius will be reprising her role as the evil AI, SHODAN, and a new voice over will be recorded. Expect the UI to be improved, along with certain game mechanics and puzzles, to give the whole package a more up to date feel whilst still remaining true to the original. There's an accomplished team working on the remake with a pretty impressive C.V. Past games include a few Fallout titles, Skyrim, Bioshock and Infinite, World of Warcraft and, of course, System Shock. Take a gander at the pre-alpha trailer to see what Nightdive have been up to: If you like the look of it so far and have some spare change lying around, you can head on over to Kickstarter to show your appreciation.
The remake will be available initially on Xbox One and on PC through Steam, Humble and GOG (DRM free), with OSX and Linux versions unlocked if the first stretch goal of $1.1 million dollars is met. There’s no plans to bring the System Shock remake to PlayStation 4 just yet, but Nightdive do state on the campaign’s FAQ page they are open to bringing the game to other platforms in the future. Nintendo have released details on nine new Pokémon you’ll be able to find in the upcoming Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon titles. The trailer released today shows off the new Pokémon in action, giving us a look at some of their abilities and evolution stages. Personal favourites include Cutiefly (the name is pretty self-explanatory), and Charjabug – a seemingly caterpillar/bus combination. Here’s the information released by Nintendo and the Pokémon Company detailing the new creatures: Name: Tapu Koko Type: Electric/Fairy Tapu Koko is the guardian deity of Melemele Island, one of the islands of the Alola region. Tapu Koko’s Ability is Electric Surge, an Ability which has never been seen before. The Electric Surge Ability fills the field around the Pokémon’s feet with electricity when it appears, raising the power of any Electric-type moves for Pokémon on the ground and preventing any Pokémon from falling asleep. Name: Charjabug Type: Bug/Electric Charjabug is the first Evolution of Grubbin, a new Alola region Pokémon revealed last month. Charjabug’s Battery Ability allows it to raise the power of allies’ special moves. Name: Vikavolt Type: Bug/Electric Vikavolt, the Evolution of Charjabug, is like a fortress that zooms through the forest, using its huge jaws to control a beam of electricity which it can fire from its mouth. Name: Drampa Type: Normal/Dragon Drampa are dragons that live alone in the mountains 10,000 feet above sea level. With Drampa’s Berserk Ability, this Pokémon’s Special Attack stat will go up by one when its HP drops below half. Name: Bruxish Type: Water/Psychic Bruxish emits a strong psychic power from the protuberance on its head while grinding its teeth loudly. Some Bruxish have the new Dazzling Ability which prevents opponents from using priority moves that normally strike first. Name: Cutiefly Type: Bug/Fairy Cutiefly can detect the auras of living things, including people, Pokémon and plants. They seek out flowers by the colour and brightness of their auras, and then they gather the nectar and pollen. Name: Togedemaru Type: Electric/Steel Togedemaru is the Roly-Poly Pokémon which gathers electricity and stores it. The long needle that grows from the back of its head works as a lightning rod to attract electricity. Name: Rockruff Type: Rock Rockruff has an excellent sense of smell, and once it has smelled an odour, it doesn’t forget it. There are tales of these Pokémon getting separated from their Trainers, then using the faintest traces of their scent to track them for days until they are reunited. Name: Komala Type: Normal No one has ever seen a Komala awake. It eats, travels and even battles while sound asleep. According to ancient people, its saliva can be used as medicine for the sick or sleepless. Komala has the Comatose Ability which keeps it perpetually in a drowsing state, preventing it from getting any other status conditions. Name: Zygarde 10% Forme Type: Dragon/Ground “When an emergency occurs, this form can take action separately from Zygarde 50% Forme, which comprises its main body. Thousand Arrows is a special move that only Zygarde can learn. It’s a Ground-type move that can also do damage to Flying types and to Pokémon with the Levitate Ability. After being hit by this move, Flying types and Pokémon with the Levitate Ability will continue to take damage from other Ground-type moves used in subsequent turns. Thousand Waves is also a move that only Zygarde can learn. This move makes it impossible for an opponent to flee or be swapped out of battle." Name: Zygarde 50% Forme Type: Dragon/Ground “Zygarde believes it has a duty to protect the ecosystem, and it monitors the Pokémon ecosystem to ensure that the ecosystem is not disrupted. While the power it possesses is overwhelming, this form contains only 50% of Zygarde’s cells. A Zygarde 10% or Zygarde 50% with the Power Construct Ability will be able to change into its Complete Forme during battle if its HP drops below half.” Name: Zygarde Complete Forme
Type: Dragon/Ground “Zygarde’s completed form is specialized for battle, enabling Zygarde to fight with its full power and fulfill its duty of protecting the Pokémon ecosystem. Core Enforcer is a move that only Zygarde can learn, and it can erase the Abilities of any opponents that have already used a move on the same turn that it’s used.” Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon launch in Europe on 23 November for Nintendo 3DS.
