Confirming the news we all knew last week thanks to an earlier leak, Activision have announced Infinite Warfare as the next instalment in the hugely popular Call of Duty franchise, and it will include a remastered version of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. According to Activision, Infinite Warfare will put the narrative “front and centre”, with players stepping into the role of a warship Captain in a “classic, epic battle of two armies”. The game will feature dogfights in space as well as Zero-G combat, alongside more traditional ground based battles. Infinite Warfare looks like it’ll be doing away with Black Ops 3’s mobility enhancing Exo-Suits in favour of a more “boots on the ground” affair. Infinity Ward’s Studio Head Dave Stohl spoke about how the new game will mix classic CoD gameplay with an all new setting: “With Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, we are taking Call of Duty to places fans have never experienced in the series. On one hand, this game is the kind of gritty, boots on the ground, visceral war story that Call of Duty is known for. On the other, its future setting takes players on a journey of epic scale and proportions, providing incredible gameplay innovations and new experiences for our fans. This is a grand scale, old-school, all-out war in an epic new-school setting. And it’s going to be a hell of a lot of fun.” What will surely be the biggest selling point for many CoD fans of way back when, certain special editions of Infinite Warfare will include a digital copy of Call of Duty : Modern Warfare Remastered. The remaster will feature a full campaign and online multiplayer including 10 maps, all beautifully rendered in current generation visuals. According to the game’s FAQ page, the MW remaster will not be sold separately, meaning you’ll have to splash out for the premium versions of Infinite Warfare if you want to go hands on with Infinity Ward’s 2007 classic. The versions including Modern Warfare Remastered, and their contents, are:
In a first for Infinity Ward’s Call of Duty games, Infinite Warfare will include a co-operative Zombies mode. The news came via a live stream in which the developer spoke more about their next entry in the franchise. Little details were given on the new Zombies mode, other than it will be a “unique and different” experience to previous Zombie modes traditionally found in Treyarch’s CoD titles. Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare will release 4 November on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. More details on Infinite Warfare and Modern Warfare Remastered will be revealed at next month’s E3.
Let us know your thoughts on latest entry in the Call of Duty franchise over in the forums. The Battlefield 5 world premiere has been confirmed as 6 May. There's a countdown on the official site ticking down to the reveal.
Microsoft could be showing off some new hardware at E3. According to a blog post by Brad Sams, the company could be releasing a new standard controller and maybe even some form of new console. Whether this console will be an Elite Xbox One or something altogether different he wasn't sure, but given all the talk surrounding the PlayStation Neo, it could be something to rival Sony's upgraded console. Yesterday Origins, a point-and-click game from Pendulo Studios, has a release date of 29 September and will be available on PC, Mac, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. You'll play as the immortal John Yesterday and his partner Pauline and travel across the globe and multiple time periods on a journey to discover the origins of immortality. Developer Pendulo Studios shared some new visuals which you can see below. Take-two Interactive, the parent company of Rockstar and 2K Games have filed new trademark applications for "Judas", in both Europe and the US. It's also been discovered that www.judasthegame.com is registered to MarkMonitor, which is also the registrar for Rockstar Games' official website. Whilst trademark applications don't always result in a game being released, it could be a sign that there's something in the works. E3 is just around the corner, after all. The mysterious 1666 was supposed to be the "new Assassin's Creed" but it never saw the light of day due to the developer, THQ Montreal, closing down. No footage was ever shown to the public, until now. Creator Patrice Desilets shared a video at an event in Europe, which you can watch below. According to Brandon Sheffield, a journalist who attended the event, "The game's theme is 'be worse than the devil,' which is why the protagonist can control animals traditionally associated with black magic."
There is hope that the title could see release, as this week Desilets regained the rights to 1666 as part of a settlement deal with Ubisoft, who obtained the rights during THQ's bankruptcy auction. Finally we say goodbye to Lionhead Studios this week. The Fable developer has officially closed for good, following a six week consultation period. A Microsoft representative told Polygon, "All employees have been provided with the option of assistance on internal job search and placement or external job search support." That support will continue for the next year. Job offers, messages of support, and thanks, have been flooding into the team via Twitter. We'd like to wish the Lionhead staff all the very best. As always, you can discuss all this and more, over in our forums. |
