The Division: Resistance update out this autumn, expands game map and adds new modes

30/8/2017

Picture

Update 1.8 Resistance is set to be the biggest free update so far for The Division. The update will release simultaneously across all platforms sometime this autumn, adding two new game modes and introducing the West Side Pier area.

by Liam Andrews

@pass_controller

West Side Pier is a new area that is made up of two new zones. Here, Division agents must investigate whether enemy factions have begun forging alliances and working together, and why they are suddenly interested in the region. The area includes the usual open world activities found across the regular game map, plus two new game modes: Resistance and Skirmish.
Resistance is a PvE mode that sees up to four players try to survive for as long as they can against waves of various enemy factions, while Skirmish features PvP action with two teams of four pit against each other in a timed deathmatch.

A new social hub area, Camp Clinton, also arrives in the update, and will allow players to find other agents to team up with and tweak their gear before heading into West Side Pier.

The update will also introduce some improvements to the Underground DLC, including “a revamp of the rogue mechanics” and an optimised gear system that allows players to improve the stats of their favourite equipment. You can learn more by tuning in to the State of the Game livestream, which takes place tomorrow on Twitch at 4pm UK time.

Sony block cross play on Ark: Survival Evolved

29/8/2017

Wildcard, the developer of Ark, claim it would "not take more than a few days" to set it up, but Sony aren't behind the idea.

When asked on Twitter if cross play between Xbox One and PS4 would ever be possible, Jeremy Stieglitz, co founder of Wildcard, said, "We have it working internally, but currently Sony won't allow it."

In a recent interview with Eurogamer, fellow co-founder, Jesse Rapczak, stated:
"Look, it's a thing that everybody asks for and everybody wants to do, and we can't really say anything other than what it is. It's easy for us to do technically and it's just policy issues, and until that gets worked out we're not different than any other game, even the big games that want to do it. It's not really something we can solve on our own.

"If all those Ark players want to be satisfied and play together, these cross-network play policy things really need to get sorted out - and then we'll do it. We're really excited about it."

"Technically it's doable," added Stieglitz. "There's nothing preventing it. And yes, we have it running internally. We think it's cool and we would like to make it happen, so if the policies change we'd like to be first in line to turn it on. It honestly would not take us more than a few days to enable it."

Xbox One and PC owners can't currently play together as the Steam version is incompatible, due to it being a different build, but that will soon change. The feature is being rolled out when the Windows 10 version of the game releases in September.

For now the ball is in Sony's court.

Rumour: Could Bethesda be working on a Game of Thrones title?

28/8/2017

Picture

Update: It appears that the news was a hoax. According to Forbes, the official statement from a Target spokesman is:

“This is not a real product – we’re sorry for any confusion.”

Original story follows.

A possible leak suggests that the Fallout 4 developer could be working on an adaptation of the popular series.

by Chris Brand

@pass_controller

Neogaf user, That Damn Kid found the listing on the website for U.S retailer, Target. There's not a lot to go on aside from the title - Bethesda: Game of Thrones. These listings usually get pulled quite promptly, but at the time of writing the page was still live.
It would seem to be in Bethesda's wheelhouse if the game is, as most are speculating, an RPG. It's hard to imagine it being anything else.

They were offered the chance previously but were working on Skyrim at the time.

It's known that Bethesda have a couple of unannounced titles in development and season 7 of the show has came to a close so, if this turns out to be true, we may get an announcement soon.

The updated version will also include a new cover system, allowing you to slip into cover seamlessly, as well as new difficulty modes - easy and legend - and achievements.

Priced at £19.99, the game will launch on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC on 17 October and Nintendo Switch soon after.

The sky’s the limit in GTA Online’s next update

26/8/2017

Picture

The next major update for Grand Theft Auto Online, launching on 29 August, introduces new customisable aircraft and allows players to claim their own private hanger.

by Allan Johnson
Picture

@pass_controller

In Smuggler’s Run, which is named after a Rockstar PS2 game, players will team up with Nervous Ron to fly contraband out of Los Santos using choppers, fighter jets and bombers in a variety of new missions.

The private hangers will act as HQ for your new business venture and give you a place to store all your personalised planes and helicopters.
According to the trailer, it looks like we’ll be able to take to the air in a WW2-era German Messerchmitt, British Spitfire, Russian MiG-15 and a seaplane similar to ones used by a certain Indiana Jones.

Earlier this year Rockstar brought Tiny Racers, a mode inspired by classic top-down GTA gameplay to GTA Online.

Looking forward to building your own fleet of aircraft or still confused by how a tin can that big can possibly fly? Sound off in the comments or over in our forum.
