Battlefield 1, the Great War-set FPS from EA and DICE, is our latest giveaway prize!

We have a physical Xbox One copy for the taking, which is of course region free, so we’ll ship it to our winner wherever they’re based. Just note that any potential import fees fall to the recipient.

Long since gamers had tired of modern and futuristic settings within the Battlefield franchise and lead competitor Call of Duty, Battlefield 1 came along to present the trip back in time players had been clamouring for. Editor James Parry acknowledged this in our review, calling the change in era “a fantastic decision” and “extremely faithful”. For his thoughts in full, do have a read of the complete article.

If you’re eager to take up arms and fight the good fight, but find yourself out of luck when we announce our winner, Battlefield 1 is exclusively available whilst bundled with the Premium Pass when bought digitally, costing £54.99 on Xbox One, PS4 and PC. The base game is available to Xbox and PC players via EA and Origin Access respectively, however, with a year’s subscription to the former setting you back £19.99 from our partners at CD Keys.

Giveaway entry can be registered Monday through Friday, courtesy of the Gleam widget below.

Good luck!

Wolfenstein II's Nintendo Switch release date announced, see the port in action

25/4/2018

Bethesda have announced the date that Nintendo Switch owners will be able to continue the story of BJ Blazkowicz in Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus.

The long-running FPS series returns to a Nintendo platform when Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus hits Switch in June.

BJ Blazkowicz was in pretty bad shape following the finale of Wolfenstein: The New Order. Now, after being rudely awakened from a five-month long coma, he finds himself leading a group of rebels on a mission to quash the Nazi regime, restore freedom to America and, ultimately, save the world.
Bethesda have released a trailer showcasing The New Colossus running on Nintendo's hybrid console, which you can watch below.
The Switch version features "the complete, uncensored, award-winning story and signature gameplay," and utilises the console's unique motion controls.

For the uninitiated, take a look at our review of the excellent Xbox One version to get the lowdown from James.

Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus
launches on Switch on 29 June.

Did you miss Wolfenstein II the first time around? Fancy playing it whilst on the move? Let us know below or over in the forums.

We’ve got a huge giveaway on our hands this week, with a combined £/€/$249.95 worth of prizes up for grabs; it’s all thanks to the generous folks at MercurySteam, who’ve provided us with five Raiders of the Broken Planet - Ultimate Edition PS4 keys to award to five very lucky winners!

The Ultimate Edition is the definitive expansion to Raiders of the Broken Planet’s free Eternal Soldier starter campaign, bundling all four additional premium campaigns - Alien Myths, Wardog Fury, Hades Betrayal and the upcoming Council Apocalypse - alongside five exclusive character skins. You can catch a glimpse of those skins in the giveaway banner further down the page.

We've been talking about the game a fair bit recently, but if you’re unfamiliar with Raiders of the Broken Planet, it’s a unique and challenging shooter-come-brawler that can be played solo, cooperatively, or via intense 4v1 multiplayer. Choosing from a colourful cast of characters, whom all play very distinctly, you’ll enter battle either as an eponymous Raider in an attempt to save the (also eponymous) Broken Planet, or as a vile Antagonist aiming to put the brakes to their efforts.
Check out our Wardog Fury campaign let's play to see the game in action.
Raiders recently received a stellar free update and a free mobile companion app, with the pair working in tandem to assure there’s never been a better time to join the growing community of players.

If that’s convinced you to give the Ultimate Edition a try, then you’d better hop to it, as the package is only available until the end of this month! If you wanna grab it before it’s gone, you can do so for £/€/$49.99 on PS4, or £/€/$59.99 on Xbox One and Steam.

Before then, you can enter for a chance to snag Raiders of the Broken Planet - Ultimate Edition gratis via Gleam below.

MercurySteam have launched a companion app for their episodic sci-fi shooter, Raiders of the Broken Planet.

by Liam Andrews

The app, which you can download for free via the App Store or Android Marketplace, gives fans instant access to all the news and special event announcements for Raiders of the Broken Planet, as well as a database of the game’s lore, including background information on all of the characters.

“We are constantly updating the game with new content, including characters, weapons and lore and the Raiders of the Broken Planet Companion App will help our growing community to keep track with all the official announcements directly on their mobile,” said Game Director Enric Álvarez.
“Our community is incredibly proactive and enthusiastic about all the news we launch about Raiders of the Broken Planet, and the latest campaign has added thousands of new players to the game. This Companion App is the perfect way for them to explore the game in detail at their own leisure”

The new campaign Álvarez is referring to, Hades Betrayal, launched earlier this month, and went live alongside a significant free update that overhauled the game’s progression system and more in response to community feedback.

You can read more on the new changes, which, according to Sam, help make the game feel “more accessible, without compromising the level of challenge that attracted players in the first place,” here.

Keep an eye out for a Hades Betrayal multiplayer let’s play from us in the coming weeks, as well as written thoughts on the new campaign from Sam very soon.

Let us know your thoughts on the new-look Raiders and its companion app below.

The latest trailer for This Is the Police 2 focuses on the game’s new combat system

18/4/2018

This-Is-The-Police-2

THQ Nordic have shared some more details on the new combat system featured in Weappy’s This Is the Police 2.

by Liam Andrews
Picture

@pass_controller

In the original This Is the Police, players responded to a crime by choosing which officers would be sent out and letting them deal with the problem, only occasionally needing to step in to make critical decisions. In the sequel, however, you’ll be much more involved in the action thanks to the revamped combat system.

The new turn-based combat system looks to have been inspired by the likes of XCOM, with players taking advantage of cover and moving their team around a tile-based battlefield.
It also looks like officers will be able to earn perks through progression. At around the one-minute mark in the trailer, we see officer Rankin awarded the Hunter perk, which allows him to locate traps and warn other team members about them.

The focus on combat is to defuse dangerous situations with as few casualties as possible, disarming perps and taking them down using non-lethal methods due to the risks involved in gun fights; it only takes a single bullet to end an officer’s life.

This Is the Police 2 will release sometime later this year on Xbox One, PS4, Switch and PC.

What do you think of the revamped combat system? Let us know below.

Rainbow-Six-Siege-30-million-players

It seems Vermintide 2 isn’t the only title celebrating a new milestone this week, with Ubisoft’s Rainbow Six Siege having recently surpassed 30 million registered players across all platforms.

As well as reaching this impressive tally, the game also saw a record number of people watch the 2018 Six Invitational, with 321,000 peak concurrent viewers tuning into Siege’s largest major esports championship to date. More than 6.2 million hours were said to have been watched across all channels during the event.
“On behalf of the entire team, we wanted to thank every member of our diverse, global community for their support of our game,” said Alexandre Remy, Brand Director, Rainbow Six Siege.

“Our players are the most valuable element to our game. Over the last three years we have endeavoured to create a solid community built on transparency as we grow and evolve the ever-expanding world of Rainbow Six Siege.”

“We are so tremendously honoured to achieve this milestone, and we will continue to do everything we can to earn each and every new person that decides to play.”

Since its release, Ubisoft have continued to add new content, modes and operators to Siege, with the studio hoping to bring the total number of the latter to 100 in the years to come.

Are you still enjoying Siege? Let us know below.

Warhammer: Vermintide 2 sales surpass 1 million, console beta coming this spring

12/4/2018

Vermintide-2

Fatshark have reached yet another milestone with Warhammer: Vermintide 2.

by Liam Andrews
Picture

@pass_controller

After shifting over 500,000 copies of the game in less than a week, Vermintide 2 sales have now surpassed one million units following its release on PC last month. To channel D:Ream, things can only get better for Fatshark with the game set to arrive on PS4 and Xbox One later this year. A beta for the console versions will happen sometime this spring.
Here’s a look at some of the impressive stats players have managed to achieve during the game’s short life:
Picture
“We are genuinely humbled by the reception of Warhammer: Vermintide 2 from gamers all over the world,” said Martin Wahlund, CEO at Fatshark.

“We reached half a million units within the first week, and one million within five weeks, which is far quicker than we ever expected.”

If you’ve yet to try Fatshark’s platinum co-op brawler, the game is currently discounted by 10% on Steam for the next seven days.

Alternatively, you can pick it up even cheaper (only £17.99) via CD Keys and help out your old pal Pass the Controller in the process.
