A follow up to Chivalry: Medieval Warfare, those who pre-order the digital version of the sequel will be guaranteed access to Chivalry 2’s upcoming closed beta as well as receiving the exclusive Royal Zweihander weapon skin upon the game’s full launch. To celebrate Chivalry 2 pre-orders going live, Torn Banner have released a pair of new videos detailing each of the two factions players will be representing in skirmishes.
The closed beta runs from Friday, 23 April - Monday, 26 April and will include cross-play between all platforms. Participating players will be able to compete in “mass-scale combat” with multiplayer matches supporting up to 64 players.

The Siege of Rundhelm map, which will see teams competing for control of a well-fortified castle in Team Objective mode, will be playable for the first time. Meanwhile, smaller modes such as Team Deathmatch and FFA will also be included in the beta.

Torn Banner Studios’ closed beta will also be a chance for the developers to show off the game’s revamped environmental combat system. Players are now able to use a variety of weapons found on the battlefield, from Ballistae, Trebuchets and Battering Rams to flaming chickens and empty mead cups.

Chivalry 2 is out 8 June on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, PS5 and PC via the Epic Games Store. The standard edition has an RRP of $39.99/€39.99/£34.99, while the special edition is listed at $49.99/€49.99/£44.99.

Will you be pre-ordering Chivalry 2? Looking forward to the closed beta? Let us know below.

Isonzo is a new WW1 multiplayer FPS from the makers of Verdun

25/3/2021

Isonzo

M2H and Blackmill Games (Verdun, Tannenberg) have announced a new entry in their WW1 Game Series, Isonzo.

by Liam Andrews
Picture

@pass_controller

Isonzo focuses on the conflict between the Kingdom of Italy and the Austro-Hungarian Empire, with the game’s multiplayer maps based on the War’s southern front. The game’s setting sees players battling it out amongst “scenic peaks, rugged valleys and idyllic towns of northern Italy” in an experience that’s said to blend the “intensity of Verdun” with the “scale of Tannenberg.”
The game will launch with its own flagship mode called Offensive. This mode sees one team attempt to capture and hold defensive positions – which range from concrete bunkers to shallow fox holes – while the other team tries to stop them.

Players will be able to take on different roles in order to “react to the battlefield,” including choosing an engineer loadout that has the ability to cut through barbed wire. Going by the trailer, it looks like certain areas of the maps can be drastically altered, such as the bridge we see getting destroyed.

Like Verdun and Tannenberg, Isonzo also boasts a meticulous attention to detail when it comes to historical accuracy, with weapons, uniforms, trench designs and “significant landmarks” all said to be authentically recreated in-game.

Isonzo is out sometime later this year and will be available on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PS5, PS4 and PC via Steam.

Let us know your thoughts on the game below or in the forums.

Operation Flashpoint Dragon Rising Steam key giveaway - Pass the Controller

A Steam key for tactical military shooter, Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising, is this week's giveaway prize.

Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising isn't for the faint of heart. It's a simulation game and, as a result, it's a particularly challenging first-person shooter.

The game centres around a fictitious conflict. Players must lead a squad of US soldiers as they battle Chinese forces in an effort to prevent hostilities from escalating. Should they fail, combat could break out on a worldwide scale.

A sandbox structure allows players to approach missions as they see fit, though charging in headfirst is never a good idea. Whatever the plan, there are loads of authentic weapons and vehicles to help execute it.

Up to the challenge? Enter via Gleam below for a chance to win. Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising is also available to purchase for just £6.99 on Steam.

Good luck!

PS5 PS VR 2 controllers revealed by Sony

18/3/2021

PSVR2-controller

Sony has given us our first look at the new controllers that’ll work in tandem with the yet-to-be-fully-unveiled PS VR 2 headset.

by Liam Andrews
Picture

@pass_controller

The controllers, which have been built “from the ground up”, according to Senior Vice President Hideaki Nishino, sound like they’ll be much more capable than the Move wands utilised by the original PlayStation VR. A variety of features will help to create a “much deeper sense of presence and stronger feeling of immersion in VR experiences.”
A “unique” orb design will allow players to hold the controllers naturally without any “constraints”. Meanwhile, the finger touch detection feature can “detect your fingers without any pressing in the areas where you place your thumb, index, or middle fingers”. This will allow users to make “more natural gestures” with their hands during gameplay.

Each controller houses one analogue stick, two interface buttons (Triangle/Square on the left, Cross/Circle on the right) and an adaptive trigger (L2/R2). There’s also a new “grip” (L1/R1) button located on the main handle of each controller that can be used to pick up in-game objects.

The controllers will be entirely tracked by the new VR headset, and also feature haptic feedback and the adaptive triggers found on the PS5’s DualSense controller. You can read the reveal blog in its entirety here.

What do you think of the PS5’s next-gen virtual reality motion controllers? Let us know below.

Bethesda and id Software are celebrating the arrival of DOOM Eternal’s final piece of DLC – The Ancient Gods Part Two – with a new trailer.

by Liam Andrews

@pass_controller

The Ancient Gods Part Two brings an end to the Doom Slayer’s story that began with DOOM (2016) and continued with its sequel, DOOM Eternal. Players will once again be going up against the forces of Hell, though this time, they’ll be bringing their own army of Sentinel’s for a final showdown of “incredible scale.”
Part Two introduces new locations such as ancient Sentinel settlements, an overgrown Earth city that hides a “mysterious gateway” and the “cosmic wonders” of the World Spear.

New enemy types will also be making an appearance, including the armoured Baron, the Stone Imp and a Screecher Zombie that’s said to empower nearby demons when it’s killed.

The Ancient Gods Part Two is out today, 18 March, on Xbox One, PS4, PC and Stadia. The expansion is available at no extra cost to those who own the DOOM Eternal Deluxe Edition or the Year One Pass, while it can also be bought as a standalone purchase.

Looking forward to the conclusion of the Doom Slayer’s story? Let us know below.

TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge is a radical new beat ‘em up, dude

10/3/2021

Teenage-Mutant-Ninja-Turtles-Shredder's-Revenge

Publisher Dotemu (Streets of Rage 4) and developer Tribute Games have announced Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge for PC and consoles.

by Liam Andrews
Picture

@pass_controller

The side-scrolling beat ‘em up, which can be played solo or cooperatively with up to four players, takes a hefty dose of inspiration from classic TMNT games such as Turtles in Time. It’s said to boast “beautifully realised pixel art” while resurrecting the series’ retro 80s designs. The game features a variety of iconic TMNT locations, from the streets and sewers of NYC to the more fantastical setting of Dimension X.
While combat is said to have its foundations set in “classic brawling mechanics,” Michalangelo, Donatello, Leonardo and Raphael will each have their own unique skills and maneuvers. It also sounds like players will be able to utilise vehicles in some way.

In addition to varying types of Foot Clan, players will be going up against baddies ranging from Triceraton Warriors and Rock Troops to the iconic Bebop, Rocksteady and Shredder.

Platform details and a TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge release date have yet to be announced, with the game only confirmed to be coming to PC (via Steam) and consoles right now.

What do you think of Shredder’s Revenge? Let us know below or in the forums.
