Ghost Recon Breakpoint's first raid is now live

28/11/2019

The first raid for Ubisoft’s Ghost Recon: Breakpoint went live at 20:00 GMT this evening for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC users, with a Google Stadia iteration coming later in the year.

Project Titan, as the raid is called, tasks four players with taking on a new faction of enemies, the Red Wolves, and their army of lethal drones. It takes place on Golem Island off the coast of the Auroa setting from the main game, where “sulphur, ashes and an active volcano” dominate the landscape. Players will be taking on four bosses - Baal, Quantum Computer, Gargoyle and Cerberus – that feature “unique design and characteristics” which players must work together to defeat
A full roster of four players is required to tackle the raid, with a Gear Level of 150 or higher, and it’ll only be available in Normal difficulty at first, with Easy and Heroic difficulties being added early next year.

As you might expect from a raid, the rewards include “some of the best loot and gear,” according to Ubisoft, with “objectives, enemy setups and rewards” reset on a weekly basis to help keep things fresh for returning players.

To celebrate the raid’s going live this evening, those exploring the main game might have noticed a volcano erupting, which was used to mark the beginning of Project Titan.

Are you looking forward to Breakpoint’s first raid? Let us know below.

X019 round-up - Pass the Controller

On Thursday evening, a special edition of Inside Xbox was streamed live from X019 in London, giving us a look at the titles we'll be playing over the course of the next year.

New IPs from Obsidian and Rare

One of the teams at Obsidian Entertainment are working on a new co-op survival game, Grounded, the first Xbox Game Preview title available with Xbox Game Pass.
In Grounded, up to four players are scaled down to the size of an ant and tasked with surviving the "unique micro-world of a suburban backyard" where they must gather everyday materials to craft and build bases, search for life saving resources and fight off the massive hostile inhabitants that threaten them and the peaceful insects.
The announcement trailer for Rare's EVERWILD didn't give much away but the cartoon-y visuals and soft pastel colours are unmistakably Rare. The team is said to be focused on "building an experience that allows for new ways to play in a natural and magical world" providing memorable and engaging experiences for players to share.
Microsoft are pushing Xbox Game Pass further than ever before

With all Xbox Game Studios titles being made available to Game Pass subscribers from day one, there's a slew of new content coming our way. 19 games from developers in the ID@Xbox program will be sitting in the Game Pass library at launch.
Eight games were introduced to the service on Thursday and we were promised that a total of 42 more will be releasing throughout the holidays and 2020, including a trio of Yakuza games (Yakuza 0, Yakuza Kiwami, Yakuza Kiwami 2) and these 10 Final Fantasy epics:

  • Final Fantasy VII
  • Final Fantasy VIII: Remastered
  • Final Fantasy IX
  • Final Fantasy X: HD Remastered
  • Final Fantasy X-2: HD Remastered
  • Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age
  • Final Fantasy XIII
  • Final Fantasy XIII-2
  • Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII
  • Final Fantasy XV
Xbox Game Pass for PC (included with Game Pass Ultimate) is starting to gain traction, with Age of Empires 2: Definitive Edition added to the PC library, a very brief reveal trailer for Age of Empires 4 debuting and the confirmation that Halo Reach will be arriving on PC via The Master Chief Collection on 3 December.
You can currently pick up a 3-month trial of Game Pass Ultimate for a single pound, euro or dollar and, for a limited time, every member can claim 1 month of EA Access, 3 months of Discord Nitro and 6 months of Spotify Premium.

Project xCloud is expanding following a successful trial

Microsoft's streaming service, Project xCloud, has been in preview for a month and over 50 titles can now be played on mobile devices, with even more on the way. Check out the full list and register your interest in the program here.

Next year, Project xCloud will be brought to Windows PCs and the team are "collaborating with a broad set of partners to make game streaming available on other devices."

In addition, support for more Bluetooth controllers is planned for 2020, including the DualShock 4 and Razer game pads.

No extra effort from developers is needed for games to function via xCloud and all of your progress (saves, achievements, friends lists, etc.) will be ready and waiting, whichever devices you use.

Get a head start on Black Friday deals

Once again, there's a lot of money to be saved in the Black Friday bargains and those with Xbox Live Gold get early access from 21 November. There's up to 75% off select games (find the full list courtesy of Major Nelson), as well as massive discounts on console bundles. Accessories are included in the sale, with a handful of controllers sporting a reduced price and Xbox Design Labs giving you a few quid off a custom job.

Keep your eye on the Microsoft Store for details.

Valve confirm new Half-Life VR game, full reveal this Thursday

Valve confirm new Half-Life VR game, full reveal this Thursday - Pass the Controller

Steam curators Valve have officially announced Half-Life: Alyx, a “flagship VR title” that will be fully revealed this Thursday, 10am Pacific Time (18:00 GMT).

by Liam Andrews

@pass_controller

The news comes following multiple rumours that Valve, the team behind the Portal, Left 4 Dead and previous Half-Life titles, were working on a new instalment for the iconic franchise. There’s little information to go on, given that the reveal is a single tweet and a couple of logos, but it is believed the VR game will be a prequel, not the long-awaited Half-Life 3.

We’re excited to unveil Half-Life: Alyx, our flagship VR game, this Thursday at 10am Pacific Time.

Can’t wait to share it with all of you! pic.twitter.com/BupFCxSrTw

— Valve (@valvesoftware) November 18, 2019
Given the reverence the series is held in, and the fact that this is the first major title Valve have worked on in a number of years, there is understandably a fair amount of hype surrounding the announcement.
What do you think of the news? Looking forward to a VR Half-Life? Disappointed it’s not Half-Life 3? Let us know below.

Ubisoft detail the final season of Rainbow Six Siege’s Year 4 content, Operation Shifting Tides

11/11/2019

Kali-Rainbow-Six-Siege-Operation-Shifting-Tides

Ubisoft shared new details of the upcoming final season from the game’s Year 4 content, called Operation Shifting Tides, at yesterday’s Rainbow Six Siege Pro League Finals in Tokoname.

by Liam Andrews

@pass_controller

Shifting Tides introduces two new operators and a “reimagined” version of the game’s Theme Park map. The two operators are Indian Attacker Kali and Kenyan Defender Wamai, both of whom come with new gadgets and weapons. The former carries a heavy CSRX 300 sniper rifle that can kill enemies instantly with a well-placed headshot or knock them down with a single shot to the body, while the latter comes with the Mag-NET gadget that plucks thrown projectiles out of the air before detonating them.
As you can see in the video above, Kali’s rifle can also be used to break through wooden barricades or hatches with just one shot (as long as they’re not reinforced) and comes with an underslung explosive launcher for blasting chunks out of sturdier structures.

To counteract the weapon’s lethality, players that are downed by it will automatically face the direction the shot came from, allowing them to better locate Kali’s position.

The reworked Theme Park map contains the following changes:

“The Rail Platform has been removed and the East and West sections have been brought closer together. Inside the building, the East section has largely evolved, primarily the downstairs area. Gargoyle and Haunting Dining bomb sites are replaced with the Throne Room and Armory pair. The new Gong Room in this area also becomes the main entrance, while the Arcade Entrance is now blocked.”

Both Kali and Wamai will be instantly available at launch to those who purchased the Year 4 Pass or have a Uplay+ subscription, with everyone else able to purchase them a week later using Renown or R6 Credits.

Ahead of its public roll out, PC players can test out the new content from today via the game’s Test Server, with the option to report any bugs or glitches to the developers through the R6 Fix platform.

What do you think of the new operators? Let us know below or over in the forums.

Play as a jetpack-propelled, gun-toting otter in upcoming The Otterman Empire - Pass the Controller

Tri-Heart Interactive, a Manchester-based independent studio, have released a trailer for their upcoming shooter/party game hybrid, The Otterman Empire.

by Chris Brand
Picture

@pass_controller

According to the press release, it's an "otterly epic local multiplayer blast-fest" starring a crew of jetpack-propelled otters. Each two minute round ushers in a new randomly-generated objective with its own unique rules and gameplay dynamics to keep players on their toes.
Alongside competitive multiplayer, there are also "intense and immersive" single player and co-op campaigns, where players must stop Tiko - a deranged scientist - from destroying the empire by completing a variety of challenges across an entire galaxy.

Features include:

  • Eight dynamic local multiplayer modes including the fast-paced Squiditch, explosive Detonator and sharp-shooting Target Practice.
  • Campaign mode with a variety of challenges across an entire galaxy.
  • Ten completely customisable characters with a range of unlockable helmets, jetpacks and antenna to make your otter your own.
  • Eight planets including volcanic base station Fishmonger Base, technological playground Ottopolis and the overgrown temples of Lontra.
  • A combination of competition and collaboration said to deliver a range of challenges with unpredictable outcomes.

"Working with the community hands-on has been a big eye-opener for us as developers," said Kieran Rogers, Managing Director at Tri-Heart Interactive.

"Coming out the gate as a ‘community-driven game developer’ has impacted the choices we’ve made every step of the way. Having a tight-knit community that is as invested in the game as much as we are, gives us a broader perspective on a project that we are so close to and it has helped us to create a party game we’re really proud of."

The Otterman Empire is due to launch on Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC early next year. You can keep up to date via the official website.

What do you think of the trailer? Let us know below or over in the forums.

The latest game overview video dives deeper into the world of Marvel's Avengers

The latest game overview video dives deeper into the world of Marvel's Avengers - Pass the Controller

Crystal Dynamics have released a new game overview video for Marvel's Avengers, the perfect accompaniment to a recent interview with Studio Creative Director, Noah Hughes, over on the PlayStation Blog.

by Chris Brand
Picture

@pass_controller

The video gives us a broader look at gameplay, mission variety, customisation and the story behind Advanced Idea Mechanics (AIM), a tech company that may not have humanity's best interests at heart.
There are two types of missions in Marvel's Avengers, Heroic and Warzone. Heroic Missions are single player outings, designed to showcase each hero as you reassemble the team through the campaign, whilst Warzone are online missions that can be played solo or with a group of up to four. After completing the introductory A-Day mission, players are free to jump straight into multiplayer, though you will be exposed to spoilers.

Progression is persistent between modes and difficulty scales depending on the size and makeup of your team.

As you level up, you'll be able to unlock new abilities, some will simply increase your attack power and others will allow you change up your playstyle and build your very own roster of heroes with unique ability sets. New suits for your chosen Avengers can be purchased or unlocked but these are cosmetic only, separate from Gear and the Perks they offer.

Any post-launch characters will be added free of charge to those who own the base game, though Crystal Dynamics aren't ready to go into detail just yet, with Hughes stating, "We treat each of these Heroes as wanting to be able to star in their own game…. The truth is the hardest thing is deciding which Heroes to not make.”

Marvel's Avengers launches 15 May on Xbox One, PS4, PC and Stadia.

What do you think of the new video? Share your thoughts on Marvel's Avengers below or over in the forums.
