THQ Nordic, known for series such as Darksiders and Red Faction, today announced that an asset purchase agreement with NovaLogic Inc. has been finalised.

by Chris Brand

@pass_controller

NovaLogic are best known for their titles with a strong focus on military simulations, like F-22, Comanche and Delta Force. It appears that THQ may be planning on bringing some of those "partly forgotten, but classic game IPs," back to life, stating this time it is "all about first-person military themed game franchises."
“NovaLogic pioneered military simulations and military-themed multiplayer shooters with vehicular combat and also clearly targeted at an adult audience,” said Reinhard Pollice, Business and Product Development Director at THQ Nordic.

“We are extremely satisfied with the new additions to our portfolio, and also very thrilled about how to continue some of said franchises, we are open for talks in this regard if any developer approaches us with a concept for a potential sequel to any IP.”

Some of the brands THQ Nordic have acquired include:

  • Delta Force Series
  • Comanche Series
  • Joint Operations Series
  • Armored Fist Series
  • Tachyon: The Fringe
  • F-22 Series
  • F-16 Series
  • NovaLogic Trademark

Are looking forward to seeing some older titles re-invented? Any in particular you're hoping for? Let us know in the forums or comments below.

Multiplayer maps Drydock and Checkout coming to Gears of War 4 soon

28/10/2016

Xbox Wire has revealed some details about the two multiplayer maps being added to Gears of War 4 at the start of next month, with Season Pass holders granted a week’s worth of early access.

by Liam Andrews

@pass_controller

The two maps that will be going into rotation are Checkout and Drydock, two popular arenas from Gears of War 3. A couple of videos have been released giving us a closer look at the classic battlegrounds, along with a brief description.

Take a look for yourself below.
Checkout

“Revisit the iconic supermarket in Cole’s hometown of Hanover 25 years after the events of Gears of War 3 in this Legacy Map. Much like the rest of Sera, nature is reclaiming whatever it can following the Locust Wars, but that hasn’t slowed the fast, furious and frenetic combat that takes place between the checkout lanes and the electronics department.”
Drydock

“Transported from a COG ship building facility to a ship breaking scrapyard on a Seran mudflat, this fan favorite returns with a vengeance to Gears of War 4 Versus Multiplayer and Horde modes.”

Season Pass holders will have access to the two maps from 1 November via the Developer Playlists, which allows squads of up to three to play them in Dodgeball and Arms Race modes in Versus Multiplayer, and Horde mode while on normal difficulty.

The maps will be made available for free on all public playlists from 8 November. Two new maps will be added every month for a year on a rotation basis, with Season Pass owners given access to all of them for offline modes.

The founders of Drifter Entertainment - Ray Davis, Kenneth Scott and Brian Murphy - have spent their careers working on such projects as HoloLens, Oculus Rift, Xbox One, Unreal Engine 4, Gears of War, Doom 3, Halo 4, and Bullet Train.
“We’re passionate about the opportunity to finally bring our vision to life,” says Ray Davis, previously the General Manager for Unreal Engine 4, and CTO at Microsoft on the HoloLens project before that.

“Virtual reality represents a rare opportunity to build an entirely new generation of game experiences to completely immerse yourself in.  We’re combining our expertise in crafting incredibly polished games along with our early expertise with VR to build some truly amazing (and fun!) games for these emerging platforms.”

Kenneth Scott has 15 years of experience as an art director. His previous experience includes Quake 3, Doom 3, Rage and Halo. Most recently he directed a team of developers at Oculus.

Brian Murphy has spent 10 years as a designer and creative director at Microsoft, helping to create things like Xbox One, Microsoft HoloLens and the Xbox Kinect.

The studio aim to "create deep, competitive, and obsessively polished titles that are as fun to watch as they are to play."

Turtle Rock Studios are no longer supporting Evolve

26/10/2016

Picture

Turtle Rock Studios have ended their association with Evolve effective immediately, according to a blog post on the game’s forums.

by Liam Andrews
Picture
@pass_controller

After support for the 4v1 multiplayer shooter began to flag, the developers announced that it would be going free to play on PC, and then on consoles at a later date. It now looks unlikely that Evolve: Stage 2 will be making its way to Xbox One and PS4 owners at all.
It seems like the decision was taken out of Turtle Rock’s hands:

“This is the life of AAA game developers who aren’t self-funded and don’t own their own IP. We don’t get to make the call. We all know that going in but we still sign the dotted line because we love what we do.”

Although they may be ending their support for Evolve, Turtle Rock confirmed they will still continue to work on future projects as a development studio:

“Those of you who’ve followed Turtle Rock Studios, this is not goodbye. We have lots of stuff in the works that we hope you’ll enjoy but we are departing on the Laurie-Anne for the last time and must bid a farewell to the planet Shear. We’ll see you all again, another time on another world….”

A special Evolve-themed livestream will be held tomorrow on the game’s Twitch channel, which the developer will use as a final chance to say goodbye to the Evolve community.

You can read the post in its entirety here.

New Watch Dogs 2 trailer - "Welcome to San Francisco"

24/10/2016

In the latest trailer we're introduced to San Francisco itself and all the opportunities for chaos it contains.

by Chris Brand
Picture

@pass_controller

Protagonist, Marcus Holloway, speaks of the city like it's a living breathing entity, a place where ideas become dreams and dreams become reality. But, as Marcus states, technology is everything, once again reinforcing the idea that almost everyone - and everything - can be interacted with, in some way.

Have a look at your playground.

Aside from the aesthetic beauty of the area, and some of the available vehicles, the trailer also showcases the beauty of explosions. Lovely, lovely explosions.

Watch Dogs 2 will be launching on Xbox One and PS4 15 November and Windows PC 29 November.
