@pass_controller

Touted as the “most realistic Supercross video game” to date, Supercross 4 will feature a “faithful representation” of this year’s Supercross season including eleven stadiums, seventeen tracks, and over 110 official brands for cosmetic and performance upgrades to both bike and rider. A track editor based on the official 2020 tracks will also allow players to create and customise their own courses.
Career mode has received a bit of a revamp in Supercross 4. Players are now able to begin their journey as an amateur rider in Supercross Futures events, before earning their place in the 250SX and 450SX categories where they’ll be challenging the “biggest number of pro riders ever in franchise history.”

Career mode will also feature a new skill system, with players able to upgrade their stats and performances via a skill tree. Skill points can be earned from races, training, competing in special events or by completing special objectives.

As well as online multiplayer there’ll be co-op for up to four players, plus a new free-roam area based on the Islands of Maine where players can race against friends, compete in challenges or track down collectibles.

Monster Energy Supercross – The Official Videogame 4 is out 11 March for Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, PS5, and PC via Steam and Stadia.

Star Wars Squadrons update to add B-wing, TIE defender, more

19/11/2020

Star-Wars-Squadrons

EA and Motive have announced plans to bring new ships and other additional content to their starfighter sim, Star Wars Squadrons, via a series of free updates.

by Liam Andrews
Picture

@pass_controller

The first of the two updates, to be released 25 November, includes a new multiplayer map as well as various balance tweaks and fixes. The new map, Fostar Haven (which you can see above) is an isolated trading station set in a “remote, lawless area of space under the light of twin stars.” The location originally featured in the campaign’s prologue mission but has been reworked for Squadrons’ Dogfight and Fleet Battle multiplayer modes, with players able to “weave through the crowded dockyards or take the fight to open space.”
Also arriving alongside the Fostar Haven map this month are a number of new components, namely engine and weapon upgrades for various starfighter classes that can be unlocked using in-game currency.

Fighter and Bomber classes will be getting the Boost Extension Kit and Prototype Piercing Torpedoes. The former grants an instant full boost that then needs to recharge, while the latter is a new missile type that can bypass capital ship and flagship shields.

Interceptor and Fighter classes are getting the Ion Rockets, said to be similar to the current Barrage Rockets but “great for hit-and-run attacks to strip enemy shields.” Meanwhile, the Support class will have access to the Anti-Material Rocket Turret, which automatically targets flagship subsystems, capital ships and other players’ deployables.

The biggest content drop comes sometime in December with the arrival of two new fan-favourite starfighters - the B-wing and the TIE defender. Both can be seen below.

Star-Wars-Squadrons
The former will fall under the New Republic’s Bomber class while the latter is to be included in the Imperial’s Fighter options. Each will have access to their respective class components, but also feature “unique aspects,” such as the B-wings’ gyro-cockpit and the TIE defender’s shields.

While these unique aspects help set the two apart from other starfighters in their class, Motive have made sure that they aren’t “outright better” by default, stating that there’s still “good reasons” to pick other ships depending on playstyle and situation.

Finally, Squadrons will also be getting custom matches and a server browser as part of the December update, with players able to modify things such as starfighter hull/shield/damage, capital ship health and enable class restrictions.

The updates may come as a surprise for many Squadrons fans, as, according to Creative Director Ian Frazier, EA and Motive were “not planning” to add any new content to the game. However, with the newly announced updates, plus last month’s drop of The Mandalorian-themed cosmetics, it looks like their attitude towards post-launch content has changed.

“Your enthusiastic support for Squadrons has enabled us to expand upon it further in all the ways outlined above, and I couldn’t be more thrilled,” said Frazier in a message to the game’s community. “It's because of your backing that we were able to get a bit of a head start on concepting all this cool new stuff. You really did make a difference. Take care, and see you in the stars!”

Star Wars Squadrons is currently available on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC. It’s also playable on Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 via backwards compatibility.

What do you think of the updates? Looking forward to trying the new starfighters? Let us know below.

Hitman developer IO Interactive debuts new James Bond game, Project 007

Project-007

IO Interactive, best known for their work on the Hitman franchise, have announced their next game is to be a brand-new James Bond title.

by Liam Andrews

@pass_controller

Project 007, as the game is currently known, was announced today alongside a brief teaser trailer, which you can see below. The game, which will be a “wholly original” James Bond origin story, is currently being developed in the studio’s Malmo and Copenhagen offices, with “elite talent” still being recruited on both sites. No release date or window was announced alongside the debut trailer.
The opportunity for IO to develop a James Bond game seems like a good fit, given the studio’s previous experience in creating solid, stealth-focussed games. This was acknowledged by IO Interactive CEO, Hakan Abrak.

“It’s true that once in a while, the stars do align in our industry,” said Abrak in a press release.

“Creating an original Bond game is a monumental undertaking and I truly believe that IO Interactive, working closely with our creative partners at EON and MGM, can deliver something extremely special for our players and communities. Our passionate team is excited to unleash their creativity into the iconic James Bond universe and craft the most ambitious game in the history of our studio.”

While there’s no release date yet, it was confirmed that Project 007 will be coming to PC and consoles.

What do you think of the reveal? Are IO Interactive and the
James Bond license a match made in heaven? Let us know below.

The beloved original Shenmue games are up for grabs on Steam in this week's giveaway.

Shenmue hit the Dreamcast in 1999 before the sequel made its way to Xbox in 2001. Neglected fans would then spend close to two decades requesting a sequel and/or a remaster from SEGA, before both wishes were finally granted in recent years.

Cited as the inspiration for the Yakuza franchise and many more classic titles, the Shenmue games were (and still are) insanely detailed for their time. Boasting deep open-world gameplay and a central story of revenge, there's nothing else exactly like the Shenmue experience.

For your chance to explore gaming history, simply enter via Gleam below. The Shenmue 1 & 2 HD Collection can also be purchased fore £24.99 on Steam.

Good luck!

Cooperative puzzler PHOGS! gets December release date, Xbox Series X and PS5 support confirmed

6/11/2020

PHOGS!

Bit Loom Studios and Coatsink have announced the release date for PHOGS!, their long-awaited cooperative puzzler that’s making its way to PC and consoles next month.

by Liam Andrews
Picture

@pass_controller

PHOGS! sees players controlling a set of dogs, either solo or with a partner, that are joined together by a gelatinous mid-section as they take on a series of physics-based puzzles. The game was originally supposed to launch earlier this summer, but unforeseen setbacks caused by the coronavirus pandemic meant it had to be pushed back to later in the year.
James and Rob went hands-on with PHOGS! back in 2018, praising its “joyous” Nintendo-like vibes and “bonkers” gameplay. They also got a lovely photo with Red and Blue, the game’s adorable, conjoined protagonists.

PHOGS! is out 3 December on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch and PC via Steam and Stadia with an RRP of $24.99 (or regional equivalent).

Xbox Game Pass subscribers (both console and PC) will be able to play the game at no extra cost as it’ll be making its way to the subscription service on day of release.

PHOGS! will also be supported on PS5 and Xbox Series S/X via backwards compatibility, Coatsink have confirmed.

Will you be picking up PHOGS! next month? Which platform will you be playing it on? Let us know below.
