Ronimo Games have released a massive update for Awesomenauts on Steam, redesigning the game’s UI and introducing “AAA style matchmaking”.

The game’s matchmaking system has been rebuilt from the ground-up, lowering both pings and skill differences when finding matches, while harsher penalties will be implemented for players who abandon games early.
A persistent party system has also been introduced, meaning it’s now easier for groups of friends to play together, and the new re-join system allows accidentally disconnected players to jump straight back into the action.

Ronimo is aiming to implement more features in the near future, starting with a spectator mode next month and a level editor with full Steam Workshop integration, which will arrive sometime next year.

When we asked whether console players will be benefitting from the Rise of Galactron update, Ronimo gave us this reply:

“As for consoles, for now we are sticking with the respective networking solutions provided by Microsoft and Sony. Therefore, it also doesn't make sense to port over the new UI flow either,” said Jasper Koning, Game Designer and Co-founder of Ronimo Games.

“Of course we'll keep evaluating if our current direction makes sense, given the circumstances and our available manpower. But given those, I don't see it happening in the foreseeable future.”

So, it looks like Xbox and PlayStation users will be missing out on Galactron’s improvements, at least for the time being.
