EA, current custodians of the Star Wars brand when it comes to gaming, thought May the 4th would be an apt time to reveal that Respawn Entertainment are working on a new Star Wars title.
The news was announced by EA’s Executive Vice President Patrick Söderlund:

“Today, I’m thrilled to be able to announce that EA and the talented team at Respawn Entertainment have expanded our relationship to include the development of an all-new 3rd person action adventure game set in the Star Wars universe. They join our other great studios – Visceral Games, DICE, Capital Games, BioWare, Motive and more – who are currently working on Star Wars projects.”

There’s little information known about the project currently under way at Respawn, other than it’s being led by Stig Asmussen, whose credentials include directing God of War 3.

Asmussen took to a blog post on Respawn’s site to speak about his delight at being able to work on a brand new Star Wars game, and talked about how the Titanfall developer plans to stay true to the Star Wars legacy:

“The entire company erupted in cheers when it was announced that this would be our next endeavour… but it’s not all fun and games — we promise to pay respect to the Star Wars legacy at all times, a fact that will be constantly reinforced and honoured as a central game design tenet.”

As well as the newly announced Star Wars project, Respawn Entertainment are also working on a sequel to their debut game, Titanfall, with a reveal planned for 12 June.
