After months of speculation, Nintendo have finally unveiled their next console - and it looks like the hearsay was somewhat accurate.

As earlier leaks had suggested, the Switch does indeed feature detachable ‘Joy-Con’ controllers and a docking station for connecting to TVs, allowing players to instantly swap between playing at home or on the move to play “the same title wherever, whenever and with whomever they choose”.

​The detachable controllers can be used for local multiplayer, and more than one Switch can be connected for larger parties to game together.

The Switch will also support a Pro Controller, and the brief appearance of Amiibo figures at around the 2:15 mark suggests they might be compatible with the new console.

Reggie Fils-Aime, President and COO of Nintendo of America, had this to say about Nintendo’s next console:
 
“Nintendo Switch allows gamers the freedom to play however they like. It gives game developers new abilities to bring their creative visions to life by opening up the concept of gaming without boundaries.”
 
Some of those developers that will be taking advantage of the Switch’s new abilities can be seen in the image below.

A sizeable list has also been provided, it looks like the Switch won’t be suffering the same lack of third party support that has blighted the Wii U.
