The game is available to play right now – for free - on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC. As previous rumours had suggested, players can choose from a selection of heroes, known as Legends, each with their own unique personalities and abilities, some of which will be familiar to fans of Titanfall.
The game features squad-based gunplay, with players forming a team of three from the selection of eight Legends.  According to Respawn, Legends are “easy to pick up and learn, but challenging to master.”

Certain Battle Royale tropes have been given a new twist in
Apex Legends, with players actually able to bring back fallen team members by utilising one-time use Respawn Beacons.

Players can also tag equipment and enemies for their squad, and weapon attachments and gear automatically gets assigned to the appropriate piece of equipment when picked up thanks to the game’s “intelligent inventory system”.

“Our goal in every game you play is that you come in with a plan but you leave with a story,” said Drew McCoy, Lead Producer for
Apex Legends.

“We’re building a game that is not only going to deliver a fun and memorable experience at launch, but something we can keep growing for a long time to come.”

During this evening’s live stream Respawn confirmed that
Apex Legends does include microtransactions, but they will be limited to cosmetic items only.

The game will also feature a Battle Pass which players can purchase for “exclusive cosmetic items earned through gameplay.”
