EA to acquire Respawn Entertainment10/11/2017 Electronic Arts yesterday announced an agreement pertaining to the acquisition of the Titanfall developer.
Respawn's CEO, Vince Zampella, reassured fans that it's still business as usual and explained the decision in a blog post.
"While it wasn’t necessary, going with EA made a lot of sense. With Titanfall and Star Wars, EA has been a great development partner that supports us and doesn’t interfere with our process for making games or studio culture. EA will provide us with more resources, access to new technologies, and expertise that we can tap into that will help us make better games, and Respawn will retain the same creative freedom and culture we’ve always had. We’ve been talking closely with the leadership at EA and we share their values and vision for the future of being a developer-focused company that puts the players first. "I will still be running things at Respawn and will also be a part of the studio leadership team at EA. There will be no layoffs or major organization changes within Respawn. All games currently in development are continuing as planned." As for those games which are currently in development, an FAQ states that the Titanfall team are "continuing to work on the franchise" and development is "going well" on the upcoming Star Wars title. "Your support will directly help us to continue on our independent journey towards the next Hitman game and beyond. We’re in this together and we promise that we will channel our passion and skills to shine through in everything that comes from this studio.
"One last thing about our next Hitman game; I want to let you know that we’re making great progress and we have exciting new features and some franchise firsts, which we can’t wait to tell you all about. You’ll have to wait a little longer as we don’t plan to start talking about that until some point in 2018." Having launched yesterday, the newly designed PlayStation App "heightens and proliferates the connected PlayStation experience beyond the console", meaning you can stay in touch whilst on the go. We think. PlayStation Messages lets you check your friends list to see who's online and what they are playing, send text and voice messages to people or groups, upload and share images, and search for new contacts.
With the PlayStation Communities app, you can quickly post text and images in discussion threads, search for new communities and topics and organise your next gaming session. After downloading the PS4 Second Screen app, you'll be able to navigate the console's menus using your device, easily input text using the on-screen keyboard and view extra content in compatible games, such as maps and radars. The app is available now for iOS and Android. Will you be downloading the new PlayStation app? Let us know how you get on below or over in the forums. If you woke up this morning to a shiny new Xbox One X courtesy of Amazon, you’re one of the lucky ones. Those affected have taken to Twitter to express their disappointment, where they may have stumbled upon this innocent tweet by Xbox. Ouch.
Whilst some are stating that their delivery has been despatched and should arrive tomorrow, others are reporting that they'll have to wait as long as a week to get their hands on the new console. We'll have a hardware review for you soon, in which James will be trying out the enhanced features in games such as Shadow of War and Wolfenstein II. Did your pre-order arrive today? Celebrate/commiserate with us below or over in the forums. After the recent open beta, players had concerns about the balance of Star Wars: Battlefront II, which has lead EA to make changes to level the playing field. They’ve also promised they'll continue to improve things post launch. Whilst some weapons will be available in crates, most are locked behind progression; if you want a certain weapon for your favourite class, you'll have to play as that class.
The same goes for class-specific gear and items. As you reach milestones with a class you'll be awarded crates which contain a mix of Star Cards and crafting materials to develop that class further. Star Wars Battlefront II launches 17 November on Xbox One, PS4 and PC. Are you happy with the changes made? Share your thoughts below or over in the forums. ENDED: Bomber Crew giveaway6/11/2017

To celebrate the upcoming launch of Vostok Inc. on Nintendo Switch, Wired Productions and Nosebleed Interactive are giving you the chance to win a cool $100,000,000. Yes, that’s for real. No, we don’t rate your chances of winning. Andreas Firnigl, Managing Director and Designer at Nosebleed Interactive, had this to say: "I can’t believe Wired are putting this money up. Please make it clear whilst we think it’s great, in no way are Nosebleed actually paying for this!” Neil Broadhead, Communications Manager at Wired Productions, continued: "Yes they are. Our grandchildren might be very angry with us, and though it may seem far-fetched that this can be achieved within 100 years, the ideas behind Vostok Inc. and the recent ground-breaking technical advancements in solar sail and electromagnetic propulsion, like the Nintendo Switch, proves that anything is possible. For those who don’t want to put the 100 years into visiting the solar system, Vostok Inc. is the perfect way to explore the stars. Plus you can shoot a unicorn gun.” Head on over to the website to download an application pack and read the small print. We caught up with Andreas Firnigl at EGX (where we awarded Vostok Inc. Game of the Show) for a quick interview. Share your travel plans below and make sure to pop in to the forums to say your goodbyes.
