Battleborn isn’t going free-to-play, free trial may be incoming

Despite the rumours, Battleborn will not be going free-to-play. However, Gearbox Software's Randy Pitchford has confirmed plans for "a trial version of the game that would be free and from which retail can be purchased along with DLC."

According to Kotaku's source, the trial won't be time-limited and will include the title's multiplayer modes and a small selection of characters, possibly on a timed rotation. Players will be able to purchase other characters, story mode missions and DLC separately.

Although the source claims that the announcement could come as early as November, Mr. Pitchford has stated that nothing has been nailed down yet, so it could take some time until we have something concrete.

Sales of Battleborn failed to meet expectations, possibly due to releasing in the same month as Overwatch, and the price has dropped considerably since launch. This 'definitely not free-to-play' version might be a good way of enticing more people onboard.
