Deep Silver confirm there will be no new Metro game in 2017

It looks as though we won't be getting a new Metro title following speculation over the past few days. The rumours began when the official site for the latest book in the series, Metro 2035, appeared to reveal that a new Metro game would be releasing sometime next year.

In a timeline, detailing the chronological order of the series’ various books and game tie-ins, the final point displayed ‘The next Metro video game’ as releasing in 2017.
 
The site has since been updated to remove the point in question after the rumours were debunked, but you can still see it in the screengrab below.

A post on the official Metro Facebook page confirmed fans of the games will have to wait for their next fix of post-apocalyptic action:
 
“As the exclusive rights holder to videogames set in the Metro 2033 universe, Deep Silver has ambitious plans for the hugely successful Metro series. But just to manage our fans’ expectations – releasing the next Metro game in 2017 is not one of them. When we have more news to share, we will. Thank you for your patience.”
 
The timeline now shows ‘an untitled Metro project’ in place of the 2017 game, with the description “the Metro saga doesn’t end where the books leave us… An era of great discoveries lies ahead!”
