DOOM Eternal release date pushed back to March 2020

id Software have announced a delay for DOOM Eternal, which was originally scheduled for release next month.

The game will now be released next year, on 20 March, with the Nintendo Switch version arriving sometime after that. id stated a need to ensure the game lived up to their “standards of speed and polish,” as the reason for the delay.

“We know many fans will be disappointed by this delay, but we are confident that DOOM Eternal will deliver a gaming experience that is worth the wait,” reads the official statement.

As well as news of the delay, id also shared a couple of other more positive bits of information:

• Invasion Mode, which lets players enter another’s game as a playable demon, is set to be added to DOOM Eternal shortly after release as a free update.
• DOOM 64 will be available as free pre-order bonus, while the game will also be available to buy and download across all platforms from 20 March.

DOOM Eternal is out 20 March 2020.
