M2H and BlackMill Games have released a huge update for their WW1-set multiplayer shooter, Verdun, on Xbox One, with existing owners receiving it for free

The update overhauls almost every part of the game, improving visuals, audio and gameplay, as well as adding new weapons, maps, and, for the first time, AI bots to help bulk out matches. The game’s UI has been retouched, there’s new custom match and map vote options, and the game’s control scheme has been further optimized. Character models have been improved upon, and there’s a new gore system and revamped authentic weapon sounds, such as incoming artillery.
One of the biggest changes sees a new spawn system introduced to Verdun’s Frontlines mode, allowing players to pick their spawn point in a similar way that spin-off title, Tannenberg, allows in its larger matches. Up to 24 AI bots will take the place of real players, a feature that will hopefully help reinvigorate the player base on Xbox One.

As for new content, the update includes two new squads – the ANZACs and Senegalese Tirailleurs – the new St. Mihiel Salient map, the Webley-Fosbery and Berthier Mle. 1907 main weapons, the machete and trench tool melee weapons, and a couple of new grenade types.

Lastly, there’s a new tutorial mode that helps new or returning players get to grips with some of the game’s key systems, like squads and levelling up, and more language options have also been added. You can read about all the changes being made to the game here.

The update goes live today for Xbox One players, with a PlayStation 4 version also in the works for a later date.

What do you think of the update? Has it convinced you to give Verdun another try? Let us know below or in the forums.
