Arctic Wolf adds two new game modes, Gun Game and Hardpoint, as well as a slew of customisation options which include emblems, callsigns, weapon camos, uniforms, and for the first time in the Modern Warfare series, female soldiers.
The previously PC exclusive Winter Crash, a seasonal take on the fan favourite map Crash, will also be available on consoles for the first time as part of the update. Players will also be able to unlock the Ugly Sweater and Gift Wrap weapon camos by completing challenges on the map.
Customisation options including animated calling cards, weapon customisation pieces and alternate melee weapons can be acquired via supply drops (purchased with either COD Points or Depot Credits in the new Depot area), by crafting them using the game’s Parts currency, or by simply grinding away and unlocking them the old fashioned way.

Although many fans are unhappy with the addition of microtransactions to a game already locked behind Infinite Warfare’s expensive special editions, Raven Software were keen to stress that their presence would not cause any balancing issues and customisation options wouldn’t stray too far from the game’s established aesthetic:

“We’re excited to support this great game with new content, beginning today with a ton of new customization items that allow for a level of personalization that wasn’t possible in the original release in 2007.” They stated.

“Personalization is a big part of Call of Duty and something we’ve done in the series for a while now that fans really enjoy. But of course, we’ve done it very carefully as our highest priority is to retain the balance, aesthetics and player silhouettes in the game.”

Operation Arctic Wolf is available now as a free download. Share your thoughts on the update with us over in the forums or leave a comment below.
