Nintendo announce Pokémon Sword and Shield expansion pass in latest Pokémon Direct

Nintendo and Game Freak have announced an expansion pass for newly released titles Pokémon Sword and Shield.

The pass, which will cost £27, contains two new regions and adventures, along with a few new and returning ‘mon. The Isle of Armor and The Crown Tundra will be released in the summer and autumn respectively, with players who purchase the pass getting access to both expansions. Those who don’t have the pass will still be able to get their hands on the exclusive Pokémon found within each via trading, however.

Here’s a brief description of the expansions from the official Pokémon site:

• The Isle of Armor - “A beautiful locale with varied habitats, such as beaches, forests, and caves. You'll meet a new mentor named Mustard, a former Champion himself. Plus, you can discover the Legendary Pokémon Kubfu, a Fighting-type Pokémon that can evolve into the powerful Urshifu.”
• The Crown Tundra -  “A wintry area just waiting to be explored. You can travel the frigid fields and encounter amazing Pokémon in Pokémon Dens. Plus, you'll discover the Legendary Pokémon Calyrex, a graceful Pokémon that was once said to rule over parts of Galar.”

In an update that went live today, Sword and Shield players can now find gigantamax Lapras, Coalossal, Flapple and Appletun in the Wild Area. Galarian Slowpoke has also been added to the games, having “wandered in from the Isle of Armor.”
