Nintendo Switch to feature GameCube virtual console support?

A number of sources close to Eurogamer are saying Nintendo’s next console, the Switch, will support GameCube games via its Virtual Console service.

Three classic titles are said to be already up and running on the Switch, including Super Mario Sunshine, Super Smash Bros. Melee and Luigi’s Mansion, with the GameCube’s Animal Crossing rumoured to be next in line for Switch support.

GameCube Virtual Console support is apparently being handled by the team behind the recently released NES Classic Edition, Nintendo European Research and Development, or NERD.
 
According to Eurogamer, Nintendo are also looking into Switch support for the Wii U’s GameCube controller adaptor, although they say the company are uncertain whether they will go ahead with this plan.
 
All this remains unconfirmed while Nintendo stay silent on the matter, but we’re getting closer to that January reveal event where we should know for certain whether the Switch will indeed feature GameCube Virtual Console support ahead of the console’s release in March 2017.
