According to the press release, it's an "otterly epic local multiplayer blast-fest" starring a crew of jetpack-propelled otters. Each two minute round ushers in a new randomly-generated objective with its own unique rules and gameplay dynamics to keep players on their toes.
Alongside competitive multiplayer, there are also "intense and immersive" single player and co-op campaigns, where players must stop Tiko - a deranged scientist - from destroying the empire by completing a variety of challenges across an entire galaxy.

Features include:

  • Eight dynamic local multiplayer modes including the fast-paced Squiditch, explosive Detonator and sharp-shooting Target Practice.
  • Campaign mode with a variety of challenges across an entire galaxy.
  • Ten completely customisable characters with a range of unlockable helmets, jetpacks and antenna to make your otter your own.
  • Eight planets including volcanic base station Fishmonger Base, technological playground Ottopolis and the overgrown temples of Lontra.
  • A combination of competition and collaboration said to deliver a range of challenges with unpredictable outcomes.

"Working with the community hands-on has been a big eye-opener for us as developers," said Kieran Rogers, Managing Director at Tri-Heart Interactive.

"Coming out the gate as a ‘community-driven game developer’ has impacted the choices we’ve made every step of the way. Having a tight-knit community that is as invested in the game as much as we are, gives us a broader perspective on a project that we are so close to and it has helped us to create a party game we’re really proud of."

The Otterman Empire is due to launch on Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC early next year. You can keep up to date via the official website.
