Streets of Rage 4 announced

Nearly 25 years after the last game was released, the Streets of Rage series is back, with a brand-new fourth instalment announced today.

Thanks to a partnership between Dotemu (Windjammers), Lizardcube (Wonder Boy: The Dragon’s Trap) and Guard Crush Games (Streets of Fury), fans of SEGA’s iconic arcade brawler will finally get to take to the crime-ridden streets once more as either Axel Stone or Blaze Fielding.

Featuring an entirely new story and hand-drawn visuals, Streets of Rage 4 “builds upon the classic trilogy’s gameplay with new mechanics,” but also stands “as an entirely original arcade-style romp thanks to the expertise of Guard Crush Games and Dotemu."

Details regarding platforms, release date or what the new gameplay mechanics actually entail have yet to be announced by any of the studios involved.
