Vampyr's Becoming a Monster gameplay trailer shows off combat

The latest trailer for DONTNOD's Vampyr focuses on gameplay and shows some of the otherworldly abilities that players can unlock as they progress.

As a newly turned blood-sucker, Jonathan Reid will be able to learn a host of skills that allow him to take down enemies, either by striking from afar with a ranged assault, or quickly closing the gap to rend flesh with devastating claw attacks. A few of these abilities are feared by even vampires themselves and at higher levels can unleash a terrible fury upon entire groups.

All of that power comes at a cost, though. The greatest source of XP comes from the blood of the very people that Dr. Reid has sworn to save. Whilst it's possible to treat London's citizens as a walking, talking all-you-can-eat buffet, it's worth noting that some sacrifices will have a greater impact than others, and killing too many may result in a district collapsing.

Vampyr launches 5 June on Xbox One, PS4 and PC. Pre-orders are available now.
