Aftercharge, an asymmetrical “invisible vs invincible” multiplayer game, has been announced6/3/2017 Chainsawesome Games have revealed a brand-new multiplayer game called Aftercharge, where invisible Workonics face class-based Enforcers in 3v3 skirmishes. Both teams can call upon unique abilities to turn battles in their favour. Workonics’ biggest asset is their invisibility, but they can also “boost” downed teammates back to life in order to bring them back into the fight. Enforcers cannot be harmed by Workonics and can utilise their “arsenal of weapons and abilities” to both spot and stop them, but their weapons deplete quickly and can only be recharged while standing near an extractor. “While Aftercharge is a shooter at first-glance, the core gameplay mechanic of invisible attackers against armed defenders was invented in a totally different space. It has enough in common with shooters so that fans of the genre will feel comfortable,” said Chainsawesome Games’ Laurent Mercure.
“With Aftercharge we wanted to play with the rules and bring new mechanics to create a quick-paced competitive experience that’s fresh, highly strategical, and yet approachable.” Aftercharge will release on PC and consoles (no platform specifics for now) sometime in 2018. The Switch has only been available for a few days, but Nintendo’s latest effort is already faring noticeably better than its predecessor, the Wii U.
Unsurprisingly, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild has also been doing rather well, debuting at number two in the UK top 10. It’s safe to say the largest portion of sales went to the Switch version of Breath of the Wild, but there were apparently quite a few who picked up the Wii U edition, including Rob. It’s the third best launch for a Zelda game in the franchise’s history (only Wind Waker and Twilight Princess fared better) and is the highest rated game in nine years, according to Metacritic. CI Games’ sniping sim has had its 4 April launch date pushed back, with the game now set to release three weeks later.
Marek Tyminski, CEO of CI Games, was once again tasked with delivering the bad news:
“We’ve worked tirelessly creating a whole new Sniper: Ghost Warrior experience set in an ambitiously crafted open world new to the series,” he said. “While it’s an unfortunate decision to delay the game one last time, we believe these final changes will result in a better experience for players worldwide on day one. Thank you for your patience – we know the wait will be worth it.” Sniper: Ghost Warrior 3 is out 25 April on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC. Sam’s keeping an eye on it; are you? The player, from the comfort of their secluded hideout, uses look-and-click controls to instruct their 6-man team of augmented misfits. The world is rendered as an augmented reality diorama before your eyes, allowing you to interact with the office around your team, investigate new developments, make decisions and expand the team's skill set. If you want to get a taste of Augmented Empire before it releases later this year, there will be a demo available at this year's EGX Rezzed in London.

Over on the Windows blog it was announced that the, succinctly titled, Acer Windows Mixed Reality Development Edition headsets will be shipped out to Microsoft developer partners this month. The kits will contain the Acer headset, documentation and access to Windows 10 Insider preview builds and the software development kit (SDK), which will enable the creation of mixed reality apps.
The headset comes equipped with built-in inside-out tracking, so there's no need for external trackers or sensors. Microsoft also promise an easy, complication free "plug in and play" setup. Here's the specifications for the headset:
Interestingly, it won't be solely for use on PC: "We’re also excited to share that Windows Mixed Reality experiences will light up on other devices over time, beyond desktop and Microsoft HoloLens. Our plan is to bring mixed reality content to the Xbox One family of devices, including Project Scorpio, in 2018." We can look forward to more information during Microsoft's //build conference in May. What do you think of the Mixed Reality headsets? Let us know over in the forums or leave a comment below. In the developer's latest blog post, it was quietly announced that there will no longer be a multiplayer technical test for the upcoming sci-fi RPG. It's not all bad news, though, as eager fans attending PAX East can still go hands-on. Those in attendance can also pay a visit to Microsoft on the show floor, where they can get a taste for the Xbox One version of the game.
If you can’t make it to PAX East, don’t worry, because live on PAX's Twitch channel the team will be showing off some exclusive gameplay footage, sharing secrets about what lies beyond our galaxy and taking part in a spoiler-free Q&A session. Are you disappointed that the Mass Effect: Andromeda tech test has been cancelled? Looking forward to the new gameplay footage? Share your thoughts with us in the forums or leave a comment below. Game Director, Jason Fader, explained the reasons behind changing from Unity to Unreal 4 by sharing a timeline of events with backers, who he also invited to leave feedback on the change. September was spent recruiting, as critical spots needed filling on the leads team. Most of the successful candidates were former colleagues of Jason, having worked with him on Fallout: New Vegas, which made getting everyone up to speed a breeze. By the end of October, Nightdive were confident that switching to Unreal was the right decision. The team shied away from announcing the change immediately, instead choosing to give themselves time to prove to the backers that they could deliver a slice of the game in the new engine with the updated visual direction. The following months were dedicated to producing something that does the title justice, and once the new year rolled around the focus was using this to produce a trailer. That brings us to the here and now, where Nightdive Studios have completed their "vertical slice" (a small snippet of the game showing off what they - and their new engine - can achieve) and released a new trailer. If you like the look of the project and want to chip in, or if you're just looking for more info, you can check out the official website here.
System Shock is due to release in 2018. What did you think of the trailer? Have you backed the project? Let us know over in the forums or in the comments below. |
